Vietnam's GDP growth is the highest in the region.
This information was provided by Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the General Statistics Office, at a press conference announcing socio-economic statistics for the second quarter and the first six months of 2025, organized by the agency on July 5th in Hanoi .
Previously, the GDP growth rates for the first half of the 2021-2025 period were 5.71%, 7.01%, 3.91%, 6.64%, and 7.52%, respectively.
According to data released by the national statistics agency, GDP in the second quarter of 2025 showed positive growth, with an estimated growth rate of 7.96% compared to the same period last year.
In the overall increase in the total value added of the economy, the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector increased by 3.84%, contributing 5.59%; the industry and construction sector increased by 8.33%, contributing 42.2%; and the service sector increased by 8.14%, contributing 52.21%.
Assessing the economic growth rate in the first six months of the year, Ms. Huong stated that Vietnam's growth rate was the highest in Southeast Asia, with the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector and the agricultural industry maintaining stable growth, meeting domestic consumption needs and serving exports.
In the industrial and construction sector, the industry achieved high growth rates, with the added value of the entire industrial sector increasing by 8.07% in the first six months of 2025, and the construction sector increasing by 9.62%.
While the value added of the service sector in the first six months of 2025 increased by 8.14% compared to the same period last year, this is the highest increase compared to the same period in the last five years.
Regarding the economic structure in the first six months of 2025, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector accounted for 11.2%, the industry and construction sector accounted for 36.9%, the service sector accounted for 43.4%, and product taxes less product subsidies accounted for 8.3%.

New businesses are increasing at a record high.
According to the General Statistics Office, in June 2025, the whole country saw the establishment of more than 24,400 new businesses, with registered capital of nearly 176,800 billion VND and nearly 137,200 registered employees.
In addition, 14,400 businesses resumed operations, an increase of 91.1% compared to the same period in 2024.
In the first six months of this year, the whole country saw 91,200 newly registered businesses with a total registered capital of nearly 820,900 billion VND and a total registered workforce of nearly 591,100 employees, an increase of 11.8% in the number of businesses, 9.9% in registered capital, and 13.9% in the number of employees compared to the same period last year.
The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in the first six months of 2025 reached 9 billion VND, a decrease of 1.7% compared to the same period in 2024.
On average, nearly 25,500 new businesses are established or resume operations each month.
Also during the six months, the number of businesses temporarily suspending operations was over 80,800, the number of businesses temporarily ceasing operations pending dissolution procedures was over 34,000, and the number of businesses completing dissolution procedures was 12,300, an increase of 23.3%.
On average, nearly 21,200 businesses withdraw from the market each month.
Trade surplus for the first half of the year reached over 7.6 billion USD.
Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first six months of 2025 at current prices are estimated at VND 3,416,800 billion, an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period last year.
In the first six months of this year, Vietnam received nearly 10.7 million international visitors, a 20.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
In June alone, Vietnam received 1.46 million international tourists, a 17.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
Regarding import and export, in the first six months of 2025, the total value of goods imported and exported reached approximately 432 billion USD, an increase of 16.1% compared to the same period last year.
Exports increased by 14.4%, imports increased by 17.9%, resulting in a trade surplus of $7.63 billion.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June 2025 increased by 0.48% compared to the previous month, mainly due to unusually high increases in the prices of housing maintenance materials, especially sand, stone, and bricks, and the increase in gasoline prices following world fuel prices.
The average CPI for the second quarter of 2025 is projected to increase by 3.31%, and the average CPI for the first six months of 2025 is projected to increase by 3.27% compared to the same period of the previous year.
