TCE Vina Denim Joint Stock Company is collaborating with SP Group of Singapore to operate a rooftop solar power system at its Nam Dinh factory. With a capacity of 5.2 MWp, the system was constructed and installed by Pebsteel.
The system officially commenced operation on January 15, 2025, marking a new milestone in TCE Vina Denim's sustainable development journey. With this system, the company can replace 15% of its fossil fuel-based electricity with renewable energy. This will help the company reduce carbon emissions by 54,118 tons annually, equivalent to planting 2.4 million trees. This transition underscores TCE Vina Denim's commitment to greening its production operations to meet sustainability requirements in export markets.
TCE Vina Denim, a company from South Korea, has invested in a denim fabric factory in Nam Dinh, which began operations in 2014. The company's products are exported to major markets including the US, Europe, Japan, and South Korea.
From the very beginning of its investment in Vietnam, the company has applied green, clean, and environmentally friendly production processes aimed at sustainable development and environmental protection. The factory has a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 4,000 tons/day, a wastewater recycling system with a capacity of 1,500 tons/day, an exhaust gas odor treatment system, as well as an air conditioning and ventilation system. In addition, the company also prioritizes the use of organic materials, recycled raw materials and recycled resources to promote a circular economy in production.
In an effort to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, TCE Vina Denim has replaced its coal-fired boilers with biomass fuels since 2024. Simultaneously, the company officially inaugurated its rooftop solar power project. In the future, TCE Vina Denim will collaborate with the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to increase the proportion of renewable energy used to at least 70% by 2030, gradually reducing the use of fossil fuels. These initiatives demonstrate the company's unwavering commitment to environmental protection, contributing to Vietnam's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
Mr. Hwang Seung Tae, Chairman and CEO of TCE Vina Denim, said: “We highly appreciate the cooperation with SP Group and Pebsteel in installing and operating the rooftop solar power project. SP Group’s extensive expertise helped accelerate the progress, bringing the system into operation four months earlier than planned.”
“Meanwhile, Pebsteel is a capable and reputable contractor in the prefabricated steel structure and rooftop solar power industry. In the past, Pebsteel installed the dyeing and weaving factories for TCE Vina Denim, and these structures have remained stable after more than 10 years of operation. With the latest project, Pebsteel has demonstrated its capabilities in the construction of rooftop solar power projects with rapid progress, ensuring quality and safety,” he added.
Brandon Chia, Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Australia, Sustainable Energy Solutions, SP Group, said: “Through our partnership with TCE Vina Denim, SP Group is committed to supporting Vietnam’s manufacturing sector to reduce carbon emissions and promote green energy transition. We aim to provide a suite of sustainable energy solutions and successful experience to help our clients achieve their energy, cost, and carbon emission reduction goals, thereby contributing to Vietnam’s net-zero emissions target.”
Mr. Logaraju Thulasiraj, Operations Director of Pebsteel, shared: “This is one of the largest rooftop solar power projects Pebsteel has implemented in Vietnam. The collaboration with SP Group and TCE Vina Denim not only affirms Pebsteel's position as a developer and EPC general contractor but also opens up opportunities for deeper cooperation in the future. Beyond economic benefits, this project is also a clear demonstration of Pebsteel's technical capabilities and experience in the construction of renewable energy projects.”
In the future, Pebsteel will continue to focus on investing in and developing rooftop solar power projects in Vietnam. By integrating solar energy solution consulting into the design and construction process of factories, Pebsteel will help customers optimize investment resources and create a clear competitive advantage. Leveraging its existing strengths in customer network and experience in the prefabricated steel structure sector, Pebsteel will accelerate the energy transition in key industries, including textiles, electronics, construction, steel, and manufacturing, thereby contributing to Vietnam's sustainable development goals.
