Schumer said that the U.S. wants to achieve a level playing field for its companies.
The congressman also emphasized the need for a "reciprocal" approach, allowing American companies to compete freely in China in the same way that Chinese companies can compete in the United States.
For his part, Chen Jining stated that the relationship between the United States and China is the most important bilateral relationship in the world , emphasizing the need for cooperation between the two sides.
Senator Schumer is leading a bipartisan congressional delegation to Asia, including stops in South Korea and Japan. The trip aims to advance U.S. economic interests and national security.
This delegation will meet with government officials and business leaders in the aforementioned Asian countries, as well as American companies operating in the region.
The trip follows a visit to China by a number of high-ranking US officials, including Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, in August.
