Agricultural trade surplus reached $15.21 billion.

Exports of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products in the first 10 months of 2024 reached approximately US$51.74 billion. The trade surplus in this sector increased by 62.2% compared to last year.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , as of the end of October 2024, Vietnam's export turnover of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products reached approximately US$51.74 billion, an increase of 20.2% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the import turnover of these products reached approximately US$36.53 billion, an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period.

Thus, for the first 10 months of 2024, Vietnam's trade balance in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries is estimated to have a surplus of US$15.21 billion, an increase of 62.2% compared to the same period in 2023.

Looking at specific product categories, in the past 10 months, six groups of Vietnamese export goods achieved a surplus exceeding $1 billion, including wood and wood products, fruits and vegetables, coffee, rice, shrimp, and pangasius fish.

Vietnam's exports of fruits and vegetables, especially specialty fruits, have seen strong growth in both quantity and value in recent times.

Among these, wood and wood products recorded the strongest growth with export turnover reaching 13.2%, an increase of 20.9%; followed by fruits and vegetables (export turnover of 6.34 billion USD, an increase of 31.5%); rice (4.86 billion USD, an increase of 23.4%) and coffee (4.6 billion USD, an increase of 40.1%).

Conversely, other product groups such as animal feed and raw materials; agricultural products; cotton; meat and meat by-products… recorded a trade deficit exceeding 1 billion USD.

In terms of import and export markets, the United States, China, and Japan are currently the three largest import markets for Vietnamese agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products. The proportion of export turnover to these markets in the past 10 months was 21.6%, 21.5%, and 6.5%, respectively.

Currently, China and the United States are also the main export markets for agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products to Vietnam. Their export market shares to Vietnam are 9.6% and 7.7%, respectively.
