Hoang Gia Nhi grew up in the mountainous commune of Na Ri. Thanks to smartphones and computers with internet access, Nhi has been able to access a lot of knowledge in various subjects through online learning with teachers and accessing lectures on digital platforms.
In addition, Nhi always strived in her studies, so in the 2022-2023 school year she won third prize in Literature at the district level, in the 2023-2024 school year she won first prize in Mathematics at the provincial level (formerly Bac Kan province) and passed the entrance exam to Bac Kan Specialized High School. In the 2024-2025 school year, Nhi received an honorable mention at the provincial level in Mathematics and second prize in the provincial handheld calculator competition.
Hoang Gia Nhi said: "Since having access to the internet and smartphones, I can watch video lectures, search for materials on Google, and learn English on various application platforms. Thanks to this, I understand lessons faster and learn many new things beyond textbooks. I find learning from digital platforms very interesting."
Schools in mountainous areas have incorporated computer science into their curriculum, and computer science has become a favorite subject for many ethnic minority students. Thanks to support from non-governmental organizations and educational projects, many schools are equipped with modern computer labs and internet access.
Besides using digital technology for learning, many young people in mountainous areas are leveraging digital platforms to start businesses. Some typical models include selling agricultural products through e-commerce platforms, livestreaming to introduce agricultural products and local specialties, which are initially bringing in stable income.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hao, a member of the Viet Cuong vermicelli cooperative in Van Lang commune, said: "When I first started taking photos and videos of the cooperative's products, I faced many difficulties in image processing. After many attempts, promoting the products on digital platforms has become easier. Thanks to selling through social media and e-commerce platforms, the cooperative's revenue is increasing. Having many orders from provinces and cities nationwide has boosted the cooperative's development, creating jobs for young people and local workers."
To help young people in mountainous areas truly "catch up" with digital technology, youth union branches, the education sector, and local authorities are actively coordinating to effectively implement many models such as: "Digital Classrooms in Mountainous Areas," "Digital Creative Spaces for Youth," etc. Through these initiatives, they equip young people in mountainous regions with digital knowledge and skills.
The Thai Nguyen Provincial Youth Union has launched the "Civilized Behavior in Cyberspace" campaign with the participation of over 400 youth union members and students; implemented a communication program for the "Volunteer Moments" photo contest to spread the image of the green volunteer uniforms and the enthusiastic and vibrant spirit of the youth union members of Thai Nguyen province; and coordinated with the Thai Nguyen Provincial Information Center to organize the "Fragrance and Beauty of the Tea Region" photo and video contest...
The implementation of the "Digital Literacy Movement" has seen many positive changes. During Youth Month alone, the province established over 200 volunteer youth teams for the "Digital Literacy Movement," attracting nearly 7,000 youth union members; organized over 30 training and awareness sessions, supporting more than 15,000 people in acquiring digital skills; 70% of young people have access to activities that enhance their digital literacy; 65% of young people use online public services; 75% of young people use electronic payment accounts; and over 200,000 people have been assisted in installing and using personal digital/electronic signatures.
Ms. Pham Thi Thu Hien, Secretary of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Youth Union, affirmed: Thanks to the attention of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the support of Youth Union organizations at all levels, and the proactive and eager-to-learn spirit of young people themselves, more and more young people in mountainous areas have gradually accessed and mastered modern technological tools.
Recognizing the role of digital transformation in youth development, especially in mountainous areas, the Standing Committee of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Youth Union has proactively implemented many practical programs and models to support young people in mountainous areas in accessing digital technology.
Some typical models and activities include: Establishing and maintaining youth digital technology groups; organizing the Thai Nguyen Youth Forum on the Digital Society; actively disseminating information and guiding people, youth union members, especially young people in mountainous areas and ethnic minorities, to access and use online public services…
Practical support models and programs continue to provide opportunities for young people in mountainous areas to excel, contribute to local socio-economic development, and preserve ethnic cultural identity in the new era.
