What disciplinary action will the teacher who strangled his colleague in Dak Lak face?

Regarding the case of " Teacher strangled by colleague in the middle of the school yard for reminding about illegal parking ", talking to Tien Phong on the afternoon of October 22, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Principal of Vo Nguyen Giap High School (Ea O commune, Dak Lak ) said that the school had organized a review council meeting.

During the meeting, teacher Dang Tang – who had strangled his colleague in the middle of the schoolyard – did not write a self-criticism, lacking the spirit of learning. In fact, teacher Tang even had a challenging and provocative attitude.

After a comprehensive review of the incident and Mr. Tang’s attitude, the Review Board has recommended disciplinary action. Therefore, the school has established a Disciplinary Board. It is expected that this Saturday, the school’s Disciplinary Board will continue to meet to come up with specific disciplinary measures.

The principal of Vo Nguyen Giap High School further informed that, according to regulations, for civil servants who do not hold managerial positions, there are three levels of disciplinary action: reprimand, warning, and dismissal. However, Mr. Tang is currently serving a warning (the disciplinary decision will be issued in early 2025). Therefore, according to regulations, the new form of disciplinary action cannot be lighter than the current one.

“The school is implementing the handling process according to regulations, including: organizing a review meeting, a Disciplinary Council meeting, reporting the results and handling form to the Department of Education and Training - the competent recruitment unit for direction,” Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung added.

As Tien Phong reported, Mr. Tang was disciplined 5 times. Before being transferred to Vo Nguyen Giap High School, he taught at Tran Nhan Tong High School. Here, he was disciplined 3 times.

Specifically, in 2013, he was reprimanded for violating teaching ethics, insulting and slapping students, insulting colleagues, slandering leaders, and arbitrarily confiscating students' phones but not returning them.

In 2016, Mr. Tang was warned and had his salary increase extended for not having a lesson plan, teaching incorrect knowledge, breaking students' phones, insulting ethnic minority students, and opposing the leadership.

In 2019, Mr. Tang was again warned for teaching without a lesson plan, smashing the board, and hitting students in front of observers. When he received the warning, he threw the paper on the ground, showing his disregard for school rules.

Subsequently, Mr. Tang was transferred to Vo Nguyen Giap High School. There, in January 2024, he received a reprimand for insulting the honor and dignity of students and for physically assaulting them. A year later (in January 2025), Mr. Tang was again warned for similar behavior.

Teacher Nguyen Truc Sinh was strangled twice

The culmination of this series of violations was a serious incident that occurred on the morning of October 3, 2025. When Mr. Nguyen Truc Sinh (Secretary of the School Youth Union – who was on duty checking order on the school grounds) reminded Mr. Dang Tang about parking illegally, Mr. Tang loudly threatened him and twice choked Mr. Sinh in front of students and school security guards. This behavior only stopped when security intervened.

After the incident, Mr. Sinh suffered pain and showed signs of neck injury. The school's Board of Directors made a record, recorded the injuries, and reported the incident to the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training (GD&DT) and Ea O Commune Police for investigation and handling according to regulations.

Following media reports, the Ministry of Education and Training requested the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training to urgently investigate, verify, and report on the incident, clarifying the responsibilities of the relevant individuals and groups, and the measures to be taken. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Tang's actions seriously violated regulations on teacher ethics and negatively impacted the educational environment.

Regarding the incident, Mr. Dang Tang admitted to using his hand to "grab his colleague's neck but not strangling him," stemming from feelings of humiliation. He stated that he is always open to constructive criticism. Drawing on the adage "where there's smoke, there's fire," he argued that he had previously been subjected to "gang attacks" by several colleagues (including Mr. Nguyen Truc Sinh) without receiving adequate punishment.
