In the early 1960s, those with good voices and exceptional talent in singing vọng cổ (traditional Vietnamese folk singing) had a high chance of becoming leading actors and actresses because audiences at that time were very fond of listening to vọng cổ. Artists such as Minh Vương, Minh Cảnh, Mỹ Châu, Thanh Kim Huệ, and Lệ Thủy built their theatrical careers thanks to their good voices and exceptional vọng cổ singing skills.

Having only performed a couple of times on stage singing vọng cổ (traditional Vietnamese folk songs), People's Artist Lệ Thủy's voice was recognized by those in the industry for its unique characteristics compared to the contemporary vọng cổ styles. Thanks to this, she was soon invited by record companies to record vọng cổ and quickly rose to fame with recorded vọng cổ songs such as: "Nấu bánh đêm xuân" (Cooking Cakes on a Spring Night), "Lương Sơn Bá-Chúc Anh Đài", "Cô hàng chè tươi" (The Fresh Tea Seller)...

People's Artist Le Thuy's voice at that time was praised by experts for its unique blend of high and low tones, rich in expression. Some simply said her voice was like a ringing bell. Others said her singing was pleasant to the ear, soothing, clear like a bright moonlit night in a blue sky, or as comfortable as a cool breeze on a river.

Theater journalists of the time described artist Le Thuy's voice as sweet yet simple and unpretentious, making her very popular. Audiences loved Le Thuy because her simple, lyrical style contained elegance, sincerity, and deep emotion that easily touched people's hearts.

Not only excelling in singing and quickly gaining fame in the recording industry for vinyl records and radio stations in the 1950s and 1960s, People's Artist Le Thuy also demonstrated her acting talent with the Thanh Tam Gold Medal (1964) just three years after she entered the Cai Luong stage (Tram Vang troupe). Also in 1964, People's Artist Minh Vuong was awarded the Vong Co Champion Prize.
