Tourists who love the world heritage city of Luang Prabang (Laos) have more travel options as many airlines operate direct flights from Hanoi to Luang Prabang.

According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 10 months of 2025, more than 158,000 Lao tourists visited Vietnam. In October 2025 alone, Vietnam welcomed more than 10,500 visitors from the neighboring country, an increase of 123%.

In addition, more and more Vietnamese tourists, especially young people, come to Laos to explore the culture, natural scenery and cuisine . And one of the destinations with strong Lao cultural colors that is loved by tourists is the ancient capital of Luang Prabang, where traditional houses with colonial architecture are still preserved.

On December 2, Thai AirAsia announced a direct flight from Hanoi to Luang Prabang, connecting two heritage cities.

According to Mr. Santisuk Klongchaiya, General Director of Thai AirAsia, the first flight of the Hanoi - Luang Prabang route was carried out with an 87% occupancy rate.

"Hanoi is a very popular destination for international visitors. We hope that the direct flight to the world heritage city of Luang Prabang will bring more options for tourists as well as people of both countries at competitive prices. Currently, the ticket price is 1.79 million VND/way," Mr. Santisuk shared.

From the perspective of a travel company, Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Marketing and Communications Director of Vietluxtour, assessed that the direct flight from Hanoi to Luang Prabang is a positive signal for the Mekong sub-region tourism market and Indochina tour groups, because it solves the biggest "bottleneck" in the past, which is travel time and convenient connection. Luang Prabang has the strength of being a UNESCO-recognized world cultural heritage with a well-preserved ancient town, highlighted by the fusion of traditional Lao architecture and colonial influences.

For international visitors, Luang Prabang is an iconic destination in Laos, often located on the Indochina loop (Thailand - Laos - Vietnam/Cambodia), so increasing flights helps extend the length of stay and increase spending at the destination.

Direct flights create three very clear advantages for travel businesses to build products and operate.

Previously, many tourists were reluctant to go to Laos because they had to transfer flights or travel long distances. Direct flights help create convenience and attract tourists.

The route also opens up opportunities to create storytelling products, diversifying Indochina routes according to the "heritage vein".
