Construction of urgent sea dike project in Ca Mau delayed

According to many residents, the urgent project to build and upgrade the East Sea dike to combat climate change, passing through Dong Hai and Long Dien communes (Ca Mau province), is being constructed very slowly, making it difficult for coastal residents to travel and transport goods.

According to the reporter's observations, there are currently three areas (from Ba Loi culvert to Huyen Ke canal) where construction has almost stopped for nearly a year, in some places only reinforced soil has been added on both sides, the dike road has only been partially filled with sand. Therefore, when it rains, vehicles passing through this area are easily bogged down.

The East Sea dike (Cai Cung canal - Tu canal section, Dong Hai commune, Ca Mau province) is under construction.

The urgent project to build and upgrade the East Sea dyke to combat climate change in Bac Lieu province (now Ca Mau province) has basically completed about 23km (the section bordering the old Soc Trang province to Ba Loi sluice). The section from Ba Loi canal to Huyen Ke canal (nearly 14km long, with a total investment of over 288 billion VND) was planned to be completed by the end of 2023, but is still unfinished.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tam, Deputy Director of the Bac Lieu Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board (abbreviated as the Management Board), said that the above project has some sections that have stopped construction due to land issues and households preventing construction. Currently, the Management Board is coordinating with local authorities and related units to organize construction protection in Dong Hai commune. For Long Dien commune, after the local authorities announce the construction protection plan, the Management Board will direct the contractor to urgently implement construction according to plan.
