The Import and Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) cited data from the Taiwan Customs Agency, saying that tea imports from the Taiwanese market (China) in the first 5 months of 2024 reached 10.8 thousand tons, worth 31.7 million USD, up 2.8% in volume and 0.8% in value over the same period in 2023. The average price of imported tea in the first 5 months of 2024 reached 2,944.4 USD/ton, down 1.9% over the same period in 2023.

In the first 5 months of 2024, tea imports from Vietnam to Taiwan accounted for the largest proportion, reaching 5.3 thousand tons, worth 8.7 million USD, up 8.8% in volume and 7.5% in value over the same period in 2023; followed by the Sri Lankan market with 1.7 thousand tons, worth 7.7 million USD, down 7.7% in volume and 5.2% in value; India reached 1.1 thousand tons, worth 2.5 million USD, down 5.3% in volume and 14.7% in value...

The average imported tea price from Vietnam is low, reaching 1,643.7 USD/ton, down 1.3% compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese market imports tea from other markets with high average import prices such as: Sri Lanka, Japan, Kenya.

In terms of types, black tea and green tea were the main types imported by the Taiwanese market in the first 5 months of 2024. Of which, the leading type was imported black tea, reaching 7.6 thousand tons, worth 19.9 million USD, up 1.3% in volume but down 0.7% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

Vietnam is the main supplier of black tea to the Taiwanese market, reaching 3.2 thousand tons, worth 4.9 million USD, up 9.1% in volume and 10.7% in value over the same period in 2023, accounting for 41.5% of the total black tea imported by the Taiwanese market; followed by other markets such as Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia...

Regarding green tea, the Taiwanese market imported 3.1 thousand tons in the first 5 months of 2024, worth 11.8 million USD, up 6.5% in volume and 3.5% in value over the same period in 2023.

Vietnam is the largest green tea supplier to the Taiwanese market, accounting for 68.8% of total green tea imports; followed by the Japanese market, accounting for 26.5%. Indonesia; Sri Lanka, Thailand, etc. supply green tea, accounting for only a small proportion of total imports to the Taiwanese market.
