Singer Phuc Anh remains loyal to cinematic.
On the evening of October 10th, singer Phuc Anh officially released her album Thena, a product that leaves a strong impression with its cinematic musical style.
The album Thena is like a diary chronicling a person's journey. That journey gradually unfolds with the experiences of adulthood as the girl begins her rebellious phase, accompanied by suffering.
Phuc Anh, whose real name is Tran Thi Hong Phuc, was born in 1992. Her parents work in the education sector, and neither of them pursued a career in the arts.
However, from a young age, she showed a talent and passion for singing. With the support and encouragement from her family, Phuc Anh was determined to pursue a professional singing career, even though her parents had previously wanted her to study finance and banking.
She was the top-scoring student in the entrance exam for the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and recently graduated with honors. She was also the top-scoring female graduate of the Thanh Hoa University of Culture and Arts.
She is known as a student of People's Artist Ta Minh Tam and had a very impressive duet performance with her teacher at the 2022 Mai Vang Awards ceremony.
Possessing a unique voice and impressive achievements, Phuc Anh doesn't follow popular music trends but instead chooses a rather distinctive and fresh style – Cinematic.
Cinematic music is known as a style created by a blend of various genres such as ballad, pop, jazz, rock, classical and contemporary... It is highly evocative, with each work reminiscent of a cinematic film through the skillful portrayal of the music.
That's also why the public commonly refers to cinematic music as film music. This style has been present in the world since the late 19th century, when cinema began to emerge and develop.
This style of music carries many risks because it appeals to a niche audience.
Phuc Anh chose a rather risky path, but she finds happiness in it because this is what she truly enjoys and aspires to achieve in the future.
Phuc Anh confided: "Perhaps it's partly because of my nature; I don't like choosing easy tasks. From childhood to adulthood, I've always chosen challenging things to test myself. As for cinematics, I've known about them for many years, I've listened to them and found them very interesting. I wondered why no one had explored them? For many years, no one had explored them. But I've fallen in love with them, so I decided to explore them. Actually, we can make cinematic jazz, cinematic pop, cinematic ballad, R&B..."
But the student of People's Artist Ta Minh Tam remained determined to pursue his passion.
Any genre of music can be made into a cinematic, even pre-war or classical music. The challenge lies in the mindset of the filmmaker; if you truly understand it deeply and are passionate about it, you can do it. Cinematic is indeed a musical style. And as a musical style, it can be adapted across various genres. This perfectly suits my desire to explore and discover. Therefore, Phuc Anh is determined to release many works so that audiences can have a more comprehensive understanding of cinematic."
