At a meeting with Mr. Ha Dong Phong, Chairman of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) on April 14, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that during the visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, the two countries will sign many important documents, including aviation cooperation.
He proposed that Comac cooperate and support Vietnamese partners in developing aircraft fleets, expanding flight routes, moving towards producing components, manufacturing and developing the aviation industry ecosystem. He also proposed that the group participate in training high-quality human resources and exploiting Vietnam's space.
"This aims to contribute to promoting the Vietnam-China relationship to develop more substantially, effectively and in depth," said the Prime Minister .
Along with that, the Government leader also proposed that Comac cooperate in purchasing, leasing, hire-purchasing and investing in aircraft warranty, maintenance and repair centers in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated the cooperation between Comac and Vietjet Air - a private airline of Vietnam. He said that Comac still has many possibilities to expand cooperation with other airlines of Vietnam in the future.
In response, Comac Group Chairman Ha Dong Phong affirmed that he would increase cooperation with Vietnamese partners. He asked the Prime Minister to support and direct Vietnamese partners to expand the scale of cooperation to develop transportation and aviation industry in Vietnam.
Founded in 2008, Comac is a Chinese state-owned enterprise specializing in the research and development of commercial aircraft with the ambition of breaking the monopoly of the West in this field. After 17 years, Comac has become a major aircraft manufacturer in China.
In late 2024, Vietjet Air proposed to the Ministry of Construction (formerly the Ministry of Transport) to lease two ARJ21 aircraft from Comac to operate the Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao round-trip route. The airline plans to launch its first flights on April 15 for these routes.
ARJ21 is a regional jet aircraft developed and manufactured by Comac. This aircraft uses GE CF34-10A engines (USA) and flight and landing equipment from Liebherr (Germany). Comac delivered the first ARJ21 to an international customer in Indonesia in 2022.
