Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attends the memorial service and burial of martyrs' remains in An Giang

On the morning of July 21, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the memorial service and burial of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the Kingdom of Cambodia and in the country in 2025 at Doc Ba Dac Martyrs' Cemetery, Thoi Son Ward (An Giang Province).

The memorial service, funeral, and burial of the remains of the martyrs were organized by the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and the commanders of the armed forces of An Giang province.

Attending the ceremony were Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Deputy Minister of National Defense; and Nguyen Tien Hai, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee.

At the ceremony, a delegation of Party and State leaders, led by Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with delegations from the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the Party Committee and Command of Military Region 9, An Giang province, and representatives from communes and wards, laid flowers and offered incense to pay respects to the martyrs.

From 2001 to the present, with the tireless efforts of the forces, especially Team K93, overcoming countless difficulties and hardships, they have searched for and collected 2,141 remains of martyrs in Cambodia, of which 251 have been identified. Specifically, in phase XXIV, during the dry season of 2024-2025, they searched 42 locations and collected 56 remains of martyrs (51 in Cambodia and 5 domestically; the identities of 2 martyrs have been confirmed).

Along with receiving 25 remains of martyrs that Team K90 (Military Region 9) searched for and collected in Cambodia, the total number of remains of martyrs at the memorial service is now 81, of which 80 were buried (1 set of remains was received by relatives and taken back to their hometown for burial).

Reading the eulogy at the ceremony, Nguyen Tien Hai, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee, said emotionally: “This morning, amidst the sacred land of An Giang, where the spirit of the mountains and rivers and the bonds of brotherhood converge, we respectfully hold a ceremony to pay respects, commemorate, and bury the remains of the heroic martyrs, the outstanding sons and daughters of the nation who bravely sacrificed themselves for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and for noble international duties.”

The Provincial Party Secretary stated that this is not only a ritual of moral and traditional significance, but also a moment of profound reflection, the heartbeat of the entire nation, the voice of today's generations addressed to those who have passed away. He also affirmed that the search for and collection of the remains of fallen soldiers is not only a responsibility, but also a journey to rediscover sacred memories, connecting the past with the present, bringing the souls of these heroes back to the heart of the nation and their homeland.

The Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee stated that the province will continue to care for families still grieving the loss, and continue to preserve the peace that the heroes sacrificed their lives for. At the same time, it will continue to nurture noble ideals for today's young generation so that successive generations of An Giang youth will be proud, grateful, and live up to the sacrifices of previous generations.
