According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the morning of October 27, continuing activities within the framework of the working trip to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and related Summits in Malaysia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had meetings with President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung, President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva.
During the meeting with President Lee Jae Myung of the Republic of Korea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the best regards and congratulations of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and other key leaders to President Lee Jae Myung; expressed his joy that after more than 30 years of building and developing, especially after the two countries upgraded their relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Vietnam-Korea relationship has achieved many important achievements in various fields.
President Lee Jae Myung sincerely thanked and sent his warm regards to General Secretary To Lam , President Luong Cuong and key leaders of Vietnam; affirmed that Korea always considers Vietnam an important partner in implementing foreign policy in the region and is ready to accompany Vietnam in the next stage of development.
Highly appreciating the results of the historic visit to the Republic of Korea by General Secretary To Lam (August 2025) and the very important working trip to the Republic of Korea to attend the APEC Summit Week by President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and President Lee Jae Myung agreed to continue to enhance political trust through promoting high-level delegation exchanges; expanding substantive cooperation in defense and security; enhancing economic, trade and investment cooperation; realizing the vision of making science and technology cooperation, innovation, and digital transformation a new pillar in bilateral relations; and continuing to strengthen cooperation in the fields of labor, culture, tourism and local exchanges.
The two sides also agreed to continue to coordinate more closely on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including Vietnam's support for the Republic of Korea to successfully organize the APEC Summit 2025 and the Republic of Korea's support and willingness to share experiences with Vietnam in successfully organizing the APEC Year 2027.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the invitation from General Secretary To Lam and other key Vietnamese leaders to President Lee Jae Myung to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time. President Lee Jae Myung expressed his gratitude and happily accepted the invitation to have the opportunity to witness Vietnam's development firsthand.
During the meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, the two leaders agreed to consider the upgrading of relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during General Secretary To Lam's visit to Indonesia in March 2025 as an important milestone, a new step in the development of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia; and agreed to limit the application of technical barriers to each other's goods.
The two sides also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern. President Prabowo Subianto acknowledged Vietnam’s efforts and agreed to support the European Union (EU) in promptly removing the yellow card for illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing for Vietnam.
The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fisheries sector and effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on fisheries cooperation signed in 2024, towards jointly developing the fisheries sector and sustainable marine economy.
Meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated New Zealand on successfully organizing the Special Summit to celebrate 50 years of ASEAN-New Zealand relations; emphasizing that 2025 marks a particularly important milestone for both countries when Vietnam - New Zealand, ASEAN - New Zealand together celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and partnership, and at the same time upgrade the relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Recalling the good impressions of his official visit to Vietnam as well as his talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in February 2025, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon highly appreciated Vietnam's active contribution as the coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations for the 2024-2027 period to the overall success of the Special Summit to celebrate 50 years of ASEAN-New Zealand relations.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasized that Vietnam is New Zealand's leading partner in the region and New Zealand is ready to provide support in practical areas according to Vietnam's development needs.
The two leaders agreed to soon complete the development and signing of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025-2030 period to create a foundation for implementing cooperation in specific fields, with clear implementation deadlines and resources.
The two sides agreed that more breakthrough measures are needed to bring two-way trade turnover to 3 billion USD by 2026.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked and asked New Zealand to continue expanding official development assistance (ODA), and support English language and specialized training for central and local officials in Vietnam.
Sharing common views on many international and regional issues, the two Prime Ministers agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral forums, together with ASEAN countries and partners, to actively contribute to dialogue, cooperation and solving common regional issues.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the support and active participation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon at the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) in Hanoi last February and respectfully invited the New Zealand Prime Minister and representatives of New Zealand to attend the 3rd Forum in early 2026.
In a conversation with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the IMF for its active and effective cooperation and support for Vietnam in recent times, especially in assessing, providing policy advice, and supporting access to financial institutions to mobilize resources for development goals.
Sharing about the country's recent socio-economic situation, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam's economy is expected to grow by more than 8% in 2025, with stable macro-economy; the current economic scale is at 510 billion USD, ranking 32nd in the world; GDP per capita in 2025 is estimated to reach about 5,000 USD, entering the upper middle-income group; implementing flexible, proactive and effective monetary policy; expanding fiscal policy; actively implementing streamlining the apparatus, shifting from management thinking to creation and serving the people.
Congratulating Vietnam on its recent socio-economic development achievements, the IMF Managing Director highly appreciated the determination and measures of the Vietnamese Government to respond to global economic and financial challenges, including tariff issues, promoting the role of the private economic sector as a key driving force for development and orienting towards comprehensive and deep international integration.
Ms. Kristalina proposed to continue to cooperate and support Vietnam in two important areas: developing a quality data system to serve the policy-making process and developing a modern financial policy framework.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked and agreed with the very practical cooperation proposals of the IMF Managing Director, and highly appreciated Ms. Kristanila's comments at ASEAN Conferences.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister respectfully invited the IMF Managing Director to visit Vietnam to further discuss important cooperation orientations in the coming time. Ms. Kristalina Georgieva happily accepted the invitation./.
