Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspects construction works and projects in Tien Giang province.

* The Go Cong sea dike, Tien Giang province has a total length of 15.8km; its task is to ensure the safety of life and property of the State and about 600 thousand households, protecting nearly 54 thousand hectares of natural land, including about 43 thousand hectares of cultivated land of coastal districts and towns of the province including: Go Cong Dong, Go Cong Tay, Go Cong town and part of Cho Gao district. Currently, the dike has been solidly invested with a length of 9km, there are still 6.8km that have not been invested.

Considering that the dike plays an important role and has been largely invested in upgrading and strengthening, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , the Ministry of Planning and Investment to coordinate with relevant ministries, branches and Tien Giang province to establish a specific project, seek and arrange capital, possibly from reserve funds, to urgently implement the project, ensuring the safety of life and property of the State and people, as well as natural resources in the affected area.

Surveying the planned location for the construction of a seaport and a sea area restoration area in Go Cong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the idea of expanding this development space; requested Tien Giang province to coordinate with relevant sectors and agencies to develop a specific plan and project to submit to competent authorities for consideration.

The Prime Minister noted that the construction of the seaport and this economic development zone must be consistent with the general planning of the province, the Mekong Delta region and the national seaport planning; research on the factors of connectivity and connection in terms of transportation and logistics services with the region and the whole country; serve the import and export of goods not only for Tien Giang province but also the whole region. In particular, it is necessary to build, call for and mobilize the implementation of projects in the form of public-private partnership.

* Rach Mieu 2 Bridge - the second large-scale bridge across the Tien River, connecting the two provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre; built about 4km upstream of the existing Rach Mieu Bridge on the Tien River.

The project is about 17.6km long, the bridge is nearly 2km long, 21.5m wide, with 4 lanes and a design speed of 80km/h. The total investment is 6,810.11 billion VND, starting in March 2022 and expected to be completed in December 2025. The project uses the central budget, and the land clearance and resettlement work is invested and implemented by Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces.

During the inspection of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project on February 15, 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed to rebuild the progress and shorten the construction time to strive to complete Rach Mieu 2 Bridge soon, minimizing traffic congestion on the already overloaded Rach Mieu 1 Bridge.

The Ministry of Transport is resolutely directing investors and contractors to focus on human resources, machinery and equipment, and organize construction to strive to complete the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project in accordance with the Prime Minister's direction.

To date, site clearance has reached over 96%, construction progress has reached over 41%, basically meeting the planned schedule. Relevant agencies strive to hand over the entire cleared site in the first quarter of 2024; by the end of 2024, the project will reach 70% construction progress and be completed in 2025.

At the construction site, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the efforts of relevant agencies and localities, and contractors who have increasingly gained experience and improved their capacity; thanked the team of cadres, workers, and laborers at the construction site for their efforts in the spirit of "3 shifts, 4 shifts", "eating quickly, sleeping urgently", "only discussing work, not backtracking", working through holidays and Tet.

The Prime Minister requested investors, localities and contractors to continue to make more efforts and be more responsible in implementing the project, ensuring progress, quality, safety, environmental sanitation, techniques, aesthetics, preventing negativity and waste; effectively disbursing public investment capital, contributing to promoting growth, creating jobs for people and completing the transport infrastructure of the two provinces of Ben Tre and Tien Giang, of the Mekong Delta and the whole country.

The Prime Minister requested that leaders of localities where key infrastructure projects pass through must always pay attention to and do a good job of site clearance and encourage and promote project progress.

Up to now, the site clearance work has been basically completed, the procedures have been completed, the Prime Minister requested the Project Management Board to make a plan, strive to speed up the progress by 3 months, complete by the National Day September 2, 2025, to meet the people's expectations.
