Promoting connections between technology businesses in Silicon Valley, USA and the Vietnamese community

US delegates affirmed their desire to promote connections between technology businesses in Silicon Valley and Vietnamese communities across the United States and Vietnam.

Mayor of Oakland, Sheng Thao, affirmed that San Francisco Bay Area cities want to promote the connection of technology businesses in Silicon Valley with the Vietnamese community.

On the afternoon of September 18 local time, in San Francisco, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a delegation of politicians from cities in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, led by Ms. Sheng Thao, Mayor of Oakland, on the occasion of the Prime Minister's visit to the United States to attend the 78th High-level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly.

At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Ms. Sheng Thao, along with many officials from cities in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, happily recalled the good memories of the visit to Vietnam in August 2023 by a delegation of several California mayors.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the government and people of San Francisco for the warm welcome of the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation; and was pleased to announce that Vietnam and the United States have just upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the State visit to Vietnam by US President Joe Biden, considering this a testament to the desire of the two countries to continue promoting substantive and effective development of relations for the benefit of the two peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia- Pacific region.

Ms. Sheng Thao and officials and large businesses in the Bay Area of California expressed their excitement at the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, welcomed the Prime Minister's visit, and said they were actively preparing for the APEC Summit in San Francisco in November and looked forward to welcoming Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong.

The US delegates shared that during and after the delegation's visit in August 2023, businesses from the two countries signed many specific cooperation agreements, including exploring the possibility of Vietjet Air opening a direct flight to California; affirming the desire to promote the connection of technology businesses in Silicon Valley with the Vietnamese community across the United States and with Vietnam.

With the current good relationship between the two countries, both sides believe that businesses have real opportunities to strengthen cooperation, especially in the fields of technology, semiconductors, medicine, etc.

Ms. Sheng Thao said that the San Francisco Bay Area has a large Vietnamese community, supported and facilitated by the state and city governments, and is a typical example of Vietnamese people returning to participate in building their homeland. The mayor of Oakland also expressed his desire to seek cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese businesses investing in the United States, including Vinfast.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight at the concrete and substantive progress in cooperation between Vietnam and the United States in general and the San Francisco Bay Area in particular. The head of the Government emphasized that Vietnam always welcomes and shows family affection to those who return home from abroad. This is a very humane feature in the culture of the Vietnamese people.

Reiterating the consistent policy of the Vietnamese State to always create favorable conditions for foreigners and the overseas Vietnamese community to do business in Vietnam, the Prime Minister asked Mayor Sheng Thao and representatives of cities and the business community in the San Francisco Bay Area to invite more people and businesses to come to Vietnam to enhance people-to-people exchanges and seek investment and business opportunities.

The Prime Minister affirmed that strengthening cooperation, sharing benefits, and jointly building and developing the country are effective and practical measures to implement the framework of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and make an important contribution to helping the two countries overcome the consequences of war.
