The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) has recently issued guidelines for organizing the 2024 Occupational Safety and Health Action Month at all levels of trade unions. The purpose of organizing activities in response to the Occupational Safety and Health Action Month is to create a peak in communication, raise awareness and compliance with occupational safety and health laws among workers and employers throughout the production and service supply chain; strengthen control of risks and ensure occupational safety and health at the workplace; care for and improve the health of workers, and minimize occupational accidents and diseases occurring annually.

Promoting coordination between trade unions and relevant agencies, local authorities, and employers in implementing specific programs and actions on occupational safety and health; improving working conditions, launching emulation campaigns, and promoting mass movements in occupational safety and health work, contributing to building a safety culture in the workplace.

Through activities during the Occupational Safety and Health Action Month, trade unions effectively fulfill their function of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers; fostering greater attention from Party committees, government agencies, the political system, business owners, and society as a whole to the issue of occupational safety and health for workers.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requests the organization of the Occupational Safety and Health Action Month in conjunction with the 2024 Workers' Month and activities celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1990 - July 28, 2024).

At the same time, the activities in response to the campaign must be practical, effective, focused, and appropriate to the labor and production conditions of the locality, unit, and enterprise, attracting the participation and coordination of all levels, sectors, organizations, media agencies, businesses, and union members and workers.

The Occupational Safety and Health Month will take place at all levels of trade unions nationwide from May 1st to May 31st, 2024, with the theme "Strengthening occupational safety and health at the workplace and in the supply chain."

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) requests that the Standing Committees of the VGCLs of provinces and cities, and the central and equivalent industry trade unions, strengthen information and communication activities, and share experiences, good models, and best practices in occupational safety and health. They should diversify communication activities to raise awareness and understanding of ensuring safety, health, and lives for workers and the public through mass media and social media platforms; and promptly disseminate information on the causes of occupational accidents, occupational diseases, and incidents to prevent them.

At the same time, regular training should be provided to trade union officials, occupational safety and health officers, and workers to identify and assess risks, and improve safe and hygienic working conditions in enterprises, establishments, teams, workshops, factories, construction sites, transportation hubs with high traffic, hospitals, and medical facilities, etc.; specialized training activities on occupational safety and health should be linked to practical training, improving the skills and methods of trade union activities for the network of occupational safety and health officers.
