A tweet on billionaire Mark Zuckerberg's account shared details about his luxury cattle farming project.
On January 10th, Mark Zuckerberg posted a photo on Instagram of himself eating a medium-rare steak from Ko'olau Farm (nearly 6 square kilometers) in Kauai, the oldest island in Hawaii.
"I started raising cattle at my Ko'olau farm in Kauai, and my goal is to create world-class quality beef," Zuckerberg wrote on Instagram, adding that he raises some of the most expensive breeds of cattle: Wagyu and Angus.
"Each cow eats about 2,270 to over 4,500 kg of food per year, which means we need to grow a lot of macadamia nuts. My daughters help me plant the macadamia trees and take care of the cows. We're just starting out on this journey, and it's great to see things improve after one season. Of all the projects I've ever pursued, this is the most lucrative," Zuckerberg added.
Bloomberg estimates the Facebook billionaire is the sixth richest person in the world with a net worth of $129 billion.
The livestock will be fed macadamia nuts and given beer to drink at the $100 million farm, which has underground bunkers and is operating energy projects, according to Wired.
The American billionaire's cattle farming project immediately drew criticism from environmental activists.
Accordingly, beer contributes to deforestation, water pollution, and global warming. Climate scientists warn that beer consumption must be reduced, especially in developed countries, if harmful environmental impacts are to be limited.
In addition, an adult cow can release up to 500 liters of methane per day, with methane accounting for approximately 3.7% of total greenhouse gas emissions, according to data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
