Community tourism potential on both banks of Tam Ky River

Unleashing the development of community tourism from exploiting the potential on both sides of Tam Ky river in association with Huong Tra village and the Sua flower festival contributes to forming a tourism chain to the south of Da Nang city, opening up opportunities to retain tourists with more time to explore and experience the journey from Tam Ky, Phu Ninh lake, the national scenic spots of Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua of Tam Hai island commune...

Tam Ky River flows through Tam Xuan commune and Huong Tra ward, Da Nang city, pouring into the sea at Cua Lo and An Hoa. Over time, the river has entered the lives of local people with its gentleness and poetry; making a great contribution to providing water resources and livelihoods for people, like a natural air conditioner, creating a living environment for animals and plants; helping to drain water from Phu Ninh Lake and upstream.

With destinations within a radius of nearly 2km, tourism potential from Cua garden landscape, Sua Flower Festival, riverside landscape, Ca Ban village, Khuong My Cham Tower, national historical relic - Memorial site of President of the State Council Vo Chi Cong, Tam Ky river is also an attractive destination for tourists if there are good solutions to exploit and develop eco-tourism associated with projects on both sides of Tam Ky river.

At the meeting with voters on August 29, 2025 of the City People's Council delegates, voter Nguyen Thi Gai (Huong Tra ward) proposed to soon study solutions to develop community tourism types associated with promoting the potential and strengths of both sides of the Tam Ky River to improve livelihoods and improve the lives of people in the area. At the same time, it was recommended that the city focus on training tourism human resources, equipping people with skills in community tourism, communication and foreign languages.

After the administrative arrangement, Tam Ky River was stretched through two localities of the area near the downstream of Tam Xuan commune and Huong Tra ward; the idea of ​​planning tourism development along Tam Ky River was signed by the two localities for coordination in management from the Tam Ky River junction to Phu Ninh Lake. However, to turn the idea into reality, there are still many things that the authorities, people of the two localities and the whole city need to join hands to support.

Currently, the encroachment and occupation of people along both banks of Tam Ky River by people has not been resolved, especially on the riverbank of Tam Xuan commune, people have built embankments, tents, dumped rubbish, etc. to encroach on the riverbed, built restaurants, cafes along the river, etc., destroying the beauty and environment of the river; some sections are covered with thick water hyacinth, garbage accumulates, affecting the flow. Therefore, the authorities of Huong Tra ward and Tam Xuan commune need to have solutions to strengthen the management of the current situation, notify people of the corridor and set up markers to protect the riverbank corridor to ensure natural and smooth flow, protect the stability of the bank and prevent erosion.

Research on the overall planning of both sides of Tam Ky river in a direction of harmony with nature associated with green space in Huong Tra village and Tam Xuan countryside; develop infrastructure associated with open spaces such as: parks, riverside squares, marinas, walking streets, landscape bridges, etc., entertainment associated with preserving local culture and cuisine ...

Along both sides of the river and the planned streets, only one type of Dalbergia toadstool tree is planted to create a uniform landscape, carrying the breath of the Dalbergia city. The concentrated planting of this type of tree will create beautiful yellow Dalbergia roads and a unified scene, helping visitors have interesting and impressive experiences of the urban landscape.

Strengthen the assessment of the current status, environmental impacts, hydrology... to have solutions to prevent riverbank erosion, minimize construction on both sides of the river, instead use soft embankments, landscape embankments... to preserve the wildness of the river. Study the planning of construction of a number of perimeter roads to serve tourism and service development combined with exploiting land funds for garden houses according to the model of village streets.

Consider improving the quality and level of the Sua Flower Festival, avoiding monotony, being on a local scale, etc. The festival is not only a purely entertainment or festival activity, but also a strategic form of traditional culture - tourism, truly effective and reaching the people, accordingly, it is necessary to continue to improve professionalism in organization, invest deeply in the festival's artistic content; at the same time, integrate digital technology and modern media to optimize promotional effectiveness. Make visitors have a long experiential trip, immersing themselves in the cool, green festival space full of natural colors of Cua Garden.

To focus on developing community tourism models with people's participation, the city should soon have a policy to develop community tourism in the area after merging with support from mechanisms such as: mobilizing people to participate in developing products, services and tourism management; building a benefit sharing mechanism between people and the state; raising awareness and capacity for people; 3-party coordination: between the community of people participating in community tourism development, the government and businesses to ensure sustainable tourism development and improve people's livelihoods.
