During her State visit to Vietnam, on the afternoon of October 23, South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa and her delegation laid wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and paid respects at the Monument to the Martyrs on Bac Son Street (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi ).
Joining the wreath-laying ceremony and visiting the Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh; laying a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs with the President of South Africa and the delegation was Central Committee member and Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh.
This state visit by President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa to Vietnam follows his visit nine years ago as Vice President, and is the first visit by a South African President in 18 years (since President Thabo Mbeki's visit in 2007) – a significant milestone in bilateral relations, following the historic telephone conversation between General Secretary To Lam and President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa on April 22, 2025.
The event demonstrates the special importance that both countries attach to and the determination to elevate their bilateral relationship.
The visit not only strengthened traditional friendship but also opened up opportunities for leaders of the two countries to comprehensively assess cooperative relations, guide the promotion of economic, trade, and investment cooperation, and explore new potentials, aiming for a more comprehensive and profound relationship in the future.
