Despite being the top-scoring domestic player, Hanoi FC striker Nguyen Van Quyet did not make it into the top 3 nominees for the V-League 2023 Player of the Year award.

According to the organizers, midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc (Viettel), Nguyen Hai Huy (Hai Phong), and goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh ( Nam Dinh ) are the three candidates competing for the title of Best Player in V-League 2023.
The absence of defending champions Hanoi Police and runners-up Hanoi FC on the list came as a surprise to many. The absence of striker Nguyen Van Quyet was particularly noteworthy.
Van Quyet is the top Vietnamese scorer in V-League 2023 with 9 goals, trailing only three foreign players: Rafaelson (Binh Dinh, 16 goals), Bruno Cunha (Thanh Hoa, 11 goals), and Jhon Cley (CAHN, 11 goals).
Following the 1-3 defeat against Binh Dinh in round 7 on April 17th, the Hanoi FC striker will be suspended for 8 matches for "physically assaulting" the referee.
With Van Quyet absent, Hoang Duc is considered the strongest candidate for the V-League 2023 Player of the Year award.
The midfielder, born in 1998, played in all 20 matches of the 2023 V-League, scoring 5 goals and providing 5 assists. Hoang Duc was a key factor in helping Viettel finish third overall.
Hai Huy also played in all 20 matches for Hai Phong and scored 4 goals. However, the team's performance was not as good as the previous season (ranked 7th, compared to 2nd last season), affecting the midfielder's chances of winning individual awards.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh played a major role in helping Nam Dinh finish the season in 5th place. The goalkeeper from Nghe An kept a clean sheet in 8 out of 18 appearances for the Nam Dinh team in the V-League 2023.
The individual awards for the season will be announced at the V-League Awards 2023 ceremony on the evening of August 31st in Hanoi.
