On September 25th, the US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Melissa A. Brown, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Van Duoc, upon the commencement of her term.
During the meeting, Melissa A. Brown mentioned economic priorities during her term, stating that she had met with American companies that have invested or are considering investing in Vietnam, and expressed her desire to learn more about the expansion of Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc stated that after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will remain the financial center of the country. The city hopes to strengthen cooperation with the US in the fields of finance, technology, and education .
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that the city is in great need of high-quality human resources and hopes for US support in this matter. Vietnam currently has several educational institutions with US investment, most notably Fulbright University in Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking about the US tax policy that is causing concern for many Vietnamese businesses, the US Consul General said that she is confident that the negotiation process between the two countries will yield positive results.
Ms. Melissa A. Brown stated that she was honored to live and work in Vietnam as the U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, especially as the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Believing that Vietnam and the U.S. still have significant potential for cooperation, she hoped that bilateral cooperation would further strengthen in the future across many fields.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc also expressed his hope that the new term of the US Consul General would contribute to further promoting relations and wished her a successful term.

Earlier, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang also met with the US Consul General on the afternoon of September 24.
During the meeting, Mr. Tran Luu Quang affirmed that cooperation between Vietnam and the United States is increasingly developing. He noted that Ho Chi Minh City has many advantages and ample room for development, opening up many opportunities for cooperation.
Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular will create even more favorable conditions for foreign businesses, including American businesses, wishing to invest in the city.
In particular, the city is focusing on cooperation in science and technology in the coming period, with the goal of becoming a science and technology hub for the region. Mr. Tran Luu Quang hoped that the two sides would further promote cooperation in areas where the US has strengths, such as science and technology, education, etc.
In response, the US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City stated that one of her priorities is science and technology and innovation, alongside education and training.
Regarding trade, she believes that improving the investment and business environment will attract more American businesses to invest in Ho Chi Minh City.
