The Cannes Film Festival 2023 officially concluded on the evening of May 27th (French time), which is the morning of May 28th in Vietnam. Justine Triet's film *Anatomy of a Fall* won the Palme d'Or this year. Notably, director Tran Anh Hung beat out many other renowned names to win the Best Director award for his film *La Passion de Dodin Bouffant*.

The film is an adaptation of the novel La Vie et la passion de Dodin-Bouffant gourmet (1924) by French writer Marcel Rouff. La Passion de Dodin Bouffant is set in 1885, a time when French cuisine was at its peak. The story revolves around chef Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) and the discerning diner Dodin Bouffant (Benoit Magimel).
The two worked together for two decades and gradually developed feelings for each other over time. They created dishes filled with passion, earning the admiration of top chefs worldwide . However, Eugénie craved freedom and did not want to marry. Then, Dodin decided to do something he had never done before: cook for Eugénie. The film stars French film stars Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel. Additionally, 14-Michelin-star chef Pierre Gagnaire served as culinary consultant for the project.
Tran Anh Hung received much praise from critics for his skillful exploration of the connection between love and food, while simultaneously depicting the lives of a young couple and addressing themes of freedom, dedication, and creativity. The film features well-invested settings and props, creating a vibrant tapestry of feasts. In his acceptance speech, after thanking Binoche and his team, Tran Anh Hung expressed his gratitude to his chef.
Director Pham Thien An won the Golden Camera award.
Besides Tran Anh Hung, another Vietnamese director who received a prestigious award at the Cannes Film Festival was Pham Thien An. His film , The Yellow Cocoon Shell , was awarded the Golden Camera for Best Debut Film.
