This morning, June 15th, in Hanoi , the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN Women) and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) launched the "Cybersecurity Handbook for Women Leaders".

At the event, nearly 80 delegates from ministries, international organizations, associations, businesses, digital transformation experts, and female entrepreneurs, female directors of social organizations and social enterprises in Hanoi and some neighboring provinces attended to discuss and share experiences aimed at improving the capacity to safely use and exploit digital information and data in cyberspace.

In today's era of booming information technology, networks and information technology are crucial factors driving the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), social organizations, and social enterprises. However, alongside these opportunities, this environment also presents enormous risks and challenges for individual users, businesses, and organizations in general, and women-led businesses and organizations in particular, in ensuring information security. Increasingly sophisticated and organized cyberattacks, on a large scale, are targeting businesses and large corporations, while awareness of cybersecurity among individual users in Vietnam remains very limited. Many companies still only apply traditional cybersecurity solutions, their technology is not updated, and they only hire personnel to repair and restore systems after an attack.

The speakers shared insights on the opportunities and challenges facing women-owned businesses in the digital age.

According to numerous studies, women often face greater risks when using the internet. This is due to gender-related limitations that limit women's opportunities to participate in training, networking, or activities related to technology and digital transformation, especially for women in remote areas, women and girls with disabilities, and elderly women.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Caroline Nyamayemombe, Acting Head of UN Women Vietnam, said: “The scope and reach of this handbook are very broad. By equipping women leaders in Vietnam with the necessary knowledge, expertise, and resources, the handbook makes a positive contribution to the collective efforts in empowering women so that they can respond quickly and confidently in the cybersecurity space, enhancing their adaptability and vigilance in the nation’s digital infrastructure, where women leaders play a crucial role.”

Within the framework of the program, speakers shared insights on the opportunities and challenges facing women-owned businesses in the digital age, information security and cybersecurity issues affecting businesses in general and women-owned businesses in particular; and solutions to support women-owned businesses in enhancing their digital transformation capabilities and ensuring information security and cybersecurity in the current context.

The program is organized by the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council under the Vietnam Federation of Trade and Industry, in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Vietnam Investment and Development Bank (BIDV). This is an activity within the framework of the “Program to support women-owned businesses, associations, clubs, social organizations, and women entrepreneurs in using and exploiting information and data safely in cyberspace,” under the regional program “Women, Peace and Cybersecurity: Promoting Women’s Peace and Security in the Digital World” of UN Women.

The program aims to enhance the capacity of women-owned businesses, women's business associations, clubs, and social organizations to safely use and exploit digital information and data in cyberspace, and to support and promote digital transformation in businesses, social enterprises, and social organizations owned/led by women.
