Providing livelihoods and hope to the Bru-Van Kieu people

QTO - The Bru-Van Kieu people in remote villages west of the Truong Son range, Kim Ngan commune, in the last days of 2025, were very excited and happy to hear that the 79th Economic-Defense Group (KTQP 79), Army Corps 15, had donated breeding cows. For the people, each donated cow is not only a great asset but also opens up a great opportunity to help stabilize their livelihoods and create motivation to improve their lives.

Mr. Ho Van Phong, Ho Rum village, Kim Ngan commune has been a poor household in the locality for many years. Mr. Phong's family is poor because their thinking has not overcome the mountain in front of their house. Moreover, they have many children, little land for production, and outdated farming methods.

The day the village chief informed him that his family would receive a breeding cow donated by the 79th Military Economic Group at the end of this year, he was restless. At dawn, the mist still lingered in the mountains and forests and on the stilt houses in the village, Phong got up, lit a fire, boiled water and brought it to the Trung Doan village cultural house, Kim Ngan commune, a few kilometers away, to invite the cadres and villagers to drink during the ceremony.

“My family is very happy and touched today. Because up to now, due to difficult circumstances, the family has not had enough conditions to buy a breeding cow. This is truly a meaningful gift, helping our family have more motivation to develop the economy . The people of Ho Rum village are all excited, the 79th Military Economic Group not only gave cows but also instructed them on how to care for and prevent diseases, the people are very grateful to the “79th Soldiers”…”, Mr. Ho Van Phong shared.

While busily guiding the people of Mit Cat village, Kim Ngan commune to complete the procedures to prepare for the drawing of lots to receive breeding cows from the 79th Economic Group, Mit Cat village chief Ho Van Sanh told us that in the future, the Bru - Van Kieu people will have more cows, and their village's life will improve even more...

At the ceremony to present breeding cows to the Command of the 79th Military Economic Group, Village Chief Ho Van Sanh thanked the leaders of Group 79 and the local authorities for their attention, selection, and support of 29 breeding cows to the people of Ho Rum, Mit Cat, and Trung Doan villages; and promised to take care of the cows so they can grow and develop well.

Vice Chairman of Kim Ngan Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Hung said that over the years, Military Economic Group 79 has always paid special and deep attention to the people of Kim Ngan Commune, including the Bru-Van Kieu people, with activities such as free medical examination and treatment, support for seedlings, helping people build roads, houses, welfare works, etc.

This companionship helps the locality to gradually stabilize people's lives, develop the socio-economy, thereby creating great trust among the people. Giving breeding cows to the Bru-Van Kieu people in the locality helps people have a "original livelihood", creating a long-term source of income, helping households to escape poverty sustainably...

“The donation of breeding cows by the 79th Military Economic Group is considered a suitable livelihood model to help poor and near-poor households in Kim Ngan commune develop a sustainable economy. Because it not only has economic significance, but also shows the close relationship between the “79th Soldiers” and the people of ethnic minorities here…”, said Mr. Nguyen Van Hung.

The cattle breeding model of the 79th Military Economic Group belongs to Project 3 - Sub-project 3 on socio-economic development of the army model associated with the local people. The project is implemented to raise awareness and living standards for the people of Kim Ngan commune, thereby contributing to the locality in completing the contents and criteria of the national target programs on sustainable poverty reduction and new rural construction.

It is known that from 2022 to now, the Party Committee and Command Board of the 79th Economic Group have directed their subordinate units to coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to review the needs of the people. Based on the list of reviews from the villages, the 79th Economic Group has supported nearly 300 breeding cows for poor and near-poor households in the area.

Economic and National Defense Group 79 carries out the task of socio-economic development associated with strengthening national defense and security in Kim Ngan commune. After more than 20 years of association, construction and growth; in addition to planting and caring for rubber trees, implementing well the cluster projects, the unit always cares and takes full care of the regimes and policies for cadres, workers, employees and actively supports the people in the area...

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Viet, Head of the 79th Military Economic Group, informed that in the coming time, based on the policy of the Ministry of National Defense , the Party Committee, and the Command of the 15th Corps, the unit will continue to coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to review and synthesize needs to continue building project models to support local people in developing livestock and crop farming, taking advantage of local strengths, improving people's livelihoods, contributing to socio-economic development, and stabilizing national defense and security in the area.
