On April 23, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the curriculum from kindergarten to grade 12 to build a workforce capable of using and developing this technology.

According to a VNA correspondent in Washington, the order requires the US Department of Education and the Department of Labor to facilitate high school students to participate in AI courses and certificate programs, and to coordinate with states to promote AI in education .

President Trump also directed the Department of Education to prioritize AI applications in teacher training grant programs, the National Science Foundation to prioritize research on AI applications in education, and the Department of Labor to expand AI-related apprenticeship programs.

The order also calls for the creation of a White House Task Force on AI Education, chaired by Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The task force is joined by Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer. The White House said the group will develop the “President’s AI Challenge” initiative and encourage the use of AI in the classroom.

The group will also be tasked with establishing public-private partnerships to mobilize resources for AI education in schools from kindergarten to high school.

Speaking in the Oval Office before signing the executive order, President Trump said the US has invested trillions of dollars in AI, a technology he asserted is "the path to the future."

This is one of seven education-related executive orders signed by President Trump on the same day, reflecting the shared concern of both Republicans and Democrats about how to effectively incorporate AI into teaching.

Both parties are concerned that American students are falling behind their peers in other countries as AI technology advances and becomes an indispensable skill for the future workforce.

The remaining executive orders address issues such as strengthening requirements for colleges and universities to disclose foreign funding; launching a new White House initiative to support historically Black colleges.
