This information was provided this morning (October 22nd) by Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thu Dau Mot University.

Previously, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province instructed Thu Dau Mot University to coordinate with relevant agencies to develop a plan and promptly return the incorrectly collected tuition fees to students.

According to Dr. Cuong, Thu Dau Mot University is currently reviewing and compiling statistics on the number of affected students (students whose practical course credits were overcharged) to report to the competent authorities. However, because many students have already graduated or are no longer enrolled, the review will take time and is expected to be completed in 2024.

Furthermore, since the 37 billion VND has already been paid into the state budget, its return must be carried out in accordance with the proper procedures and regulations of the law.

“The amount of money collected improperly, as concluded by the audit, will be refunded by the school, in the spirit of ensuring the rights of students and complying with the law. Currently, the relevant departments are working on the data,” said Dr. Cuong.

Meanwhile, a representative from the Binh Duong Department of Finance stated that the money paid by Thu Dau Mot University to the state budget will be returned once the university provides complete documentation.

Previously, the State Audit Office concluded that Thu Dau Mot University had collected tuition fees exceeding the prescribed limits for students in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years (by approximately 1.5 times), amounting to 37 billion VND.

Regarding this improperly collected fee, the State Audit Office requires the school to reimburse the students before March 31, 2023. If the school is unable to reimburse the students, the funds must be deposited into the state budget.

Following the audit's conclusions, Thu Dau Mot University decided to return the funds to the state budget. This decision caused a stir among thousands of students and the public.
