Coach Kim Sang Sik made three changes to the starting lineup compared to the opening match win against U22 Laos on December 3rd, which Vietnam won 2-1. Phi Hoang came on as left back, and captain Khuat Van Khang was moved up to right forward to replace Thanh Nhan.

Midfielder Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong started alongside Thai Son in the center circle, replacing Xuan Bac. Although he had recovered from the injury sustained in the win against U22 Laos, Xuan Bac remained on the sidelines.

The remaining change was the inclusion of Viktor Lê from the start. This Vietnamese-Russian player played as a central striker, replacing Quốc Việt. This also marked Viktor Lê's first appearance at the SEA Games 33.

With notable changes in the attacking line, the Vietnam U22 team promises to create a good game against Malaysia U22.
