Maintaining stable operations in 9 craft villages.
Tao Village (Tam Thuan Commune) has nearly 630 households with approximately 2,500 inhabitants. Of these, about 24.4% of the total households are engaged in tailoring, employing over 800 workers. The tailoring profession has been developed by the villagers since the 2000s, with main products including polo shirts, sun protection shirts, windbreakers, fleece clothing, sportswear , and school uniforms.
According to Nguyen Van Dinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Thuan commune, since the introduction of tailoring as a profession, the material and spiritual lives of the people in Tao village have been increasingly improved. The average income of those working in the profession reaches 120 million VND per year.
“In April 2024, Tao Village was honored to receive the certificate recognizing it as a Hanoi Traditional Craft Village from the Hanoi People's Committee. This is an honor, but also an opportunity for Tao Village to continue maintaining and developing its traditional tailoring craft…” - Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh added.
With the recognition of Tao Village as a Hanoi craft village, Phuc Tho district now has 9 craft villages recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee. These craft villages operate stably, currently attracting 1,700 production and business establishments, and this number is steadily increasing.
According to the assessment of the Phuc Tho District Economic Department, the development of craft villages in recent years has contributed to increasing the district's budget revenue; especially creating jobs for thousands of local workers as well as those from neighboring communes and districts.
In addition to the recognized craft villages, in recent years, Phuc Tho district has also promoted the development of crafts in some new villages. These include the village producing plaster animal figurines in Thanh Da commune; and the village producing soy sauce in Thuong Coc commune…

Develop 3-5 new craft villages.
Despite experiencing many ups and downs, three traditional craft villages in Phuc Tho district are now declining. These are the two agricultural product processing villages of Hieu Hiep and Ha Hiep (Lien Hiep commune), and the carpet weaving village of Dong (Phung Thuong commune). The activities of some craft villages are also facing many difficulties in the context of the new market.
According to Can Van Hong, Head of the Economic Department of Phuc Tho District, to promote the development of craft villages, Phuc Tho District has developed a plan for the development of industry, small-scale handicrafts, trade - services and craft villages in the district for the period 2023 - 2025, with a vision to 2030.
To concretize the above plan, from 2023 to the present, Phuc Tho district has focused on completing the criteria for existing craft villages; planning, managing, and investing in the construction of craft villages according to the plan; ensuring synchronous, modern infrastructure that is compatible with the rural landscape architecture.
According to Le Van Thu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Tho District, the locality has always identified traditional craft villages as a driving force for rural economic development and improving the lives of the people. Therefore, they always strive to create the best operating conditions for establishments in these craft villages.
In the coming period, the district will focus on developing the garment-making village of Thuong Hiep hamlet (Tam Hiep commune) combined with tourism according to Resolution No. 12-NQ/HU of the Phuc Tho District Party Committee. It will also develop several new craft villages such as: mechanical engineering in Lien Hiep commune; vermicelli, cake, and tofu production in Sen Chieu commune; and wood processing and wood products in Hat Mon and Thanh Da communes…
In addition, the district will focus on solutions to promote small-scale handicraft production in purely agricultural villages. It will implement trade promotion programs, invite investment, and attract businesses to participate in the development of craft villages. Priority will be given to developing high-tech, environmentally friendly production in these villages.
To support the consumption of products from craft villages, in the period 2023-2025, with a vision to 2030, Phuc Tho district aims to have 3-5 craft villages invested in centers for introducing and selling craft village products. At the same time, it will continue to promote the building of brands for craft village products.
Nine craft villages in Phuc Tho district have been recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee, including: Thuong Hiep village (Tam Hiep commune) specializing in garment making; Hieu Hiep and Ha Hiep villages specializing in agricultural product processing (Lien Hiep commune); Linh Chieu village specializing in agricultural product processing (Sen Chieu commune); Dong village specializing in carpet weaving (Phung Thuong commune); Phu An village specializing in carpentry (Thanh Da commune); Tich Giang commune's flower and ornamental plant village; Trieu Xuyen village specializing in carpentry (Long Xuyen commune); and Tao village specializing in tailoring (Tam Thuan commune).
