On the morning of April 22, the Quang Tri Provincial Police Investigation Agency announced that it had initiated criminal proceedings and detained five Lao nationals for investigation into the smuggling of 100 kg of narcotics from Laos into Vietnam. The five suspects are: Tik Xayasane (27 years old), Lembi Kingvannouvong (25 years old), Sengphet Keosevan (28 years old), Sisamout Sisomboun (28 years old), and Sengphet Keonouvong (38 years old), all residing in Bolykhamxay province.
Earlier, on the afternoon of March 30th, on National Highway 9, in the section passing through Lang Vay village (Tan Long commune, Huong Hoa district), Quang Tri province authorities discovered five Lao nationals illegally transporting narcotics. The seized items included 100 white and yellow nylon bags containing white crystalline substances weighing 100 kg (suspected to be synthetic methamphetamine), along with a car with a Lao license plate.
Following a swift investigation, law enforcement officers coordinated to arrest four more Lao women who were staying in Khe Sanh town (Huong Hoa district).
Authorities in Quang Tri province have cracked a major drug trafficking case.
Through examination, authorities determined that the 100 kg of seized evidence in the case was methamphetamine.
Following the results of the examination, Thuan Border Guard Station (Huong Hoa District) decided to initiate a criminal case for illegal drug trafficking; and simultaneously handed over the case file, evidence, and vehicle to the Quang Tri Provincial Police for further processing according to regulations.
Following the arrest, the Quang Tri Provincial Police initiated criminal proceedings and detained five Lao nationals for investigation into the illegal trafficking of narcotics.
The Quang Tri Border Guard completed exit procedures and handed over four Lao female suspects to the Lao authorities for processing. Based on initial investigations, the special task force determined that these four female suspects were unaware of and not involved in the illegal trafficking of narcotics; they entered Vietnam legally.
