[Video] The National Assembly acknowledged the Government's management efforts and proposed solutions for education, rural areas and culture.

The National Assembly discussed the Government's Report for the 2021-2026 term, with delegates appreciating the efforts in governance in a volatile context, especially during the pandemic and economic recovery period.

Strong and consistent leadership has helped stabilize the economy , and many strategic infrastructure projects have been accelerated, including the first completion of the expressway system connecting the Mekong Delta. Social, health, and education policies have been effectively implemented, social security has been ensured, and high-tech crime and drugs have been vigorously fought.

In addition to the achieved results, delegates pointed out shortcomings such as complicated and overlapping administrative procedures in the two-level government model, public investment disbursement not meeting requirements, limited grassroots health capacity and difficulties of small and medium enterprises.

In the field of education , many breakthrough policies have been recorded, from universal preschool to free tuition. However, the pressure of the 10th grade entrance exam and student streaming is still a big problem, affecting students' right to education. Delegates recommended expanding opportunities to enter public high schools, improving enrollment and improving the quality of vocational high schools.

Regarding rural and mountainous areas, delegates warned of the situation of “empty villages and deserted hamlets” due to lack of local jobs. They proposed moving factories to rural areas, building satellite industrial clusters, providing tax incentives for businesses investing in mountainous areas and developing deep processing industries. Based on the reality of natural disaster prevention, they recommended promoting dual-use industries and increasing people’s self-responsibility.

The cultural sector continues to be emphasized as a “strategic bottleneck”, when ethics, lifestyle and value systems have not kept up with material development. It is recommended that the Government in the next term put culture and lifestyle at the center, build a national strategy on culture in the digital age, establish a set of cultural and behavioral indicators, increase investment in grassroots cultural institutions and improve policy communication to build cultural resistance for society.
