Sharing at the training session on communication in the field of energy saving and efficiency held on July 18, Mr. Dang Hai Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized: Energy saving and electricity saving are urgent and effective solutions in both the short and long term, helping to reduce pressure on energy supply, protect the environment and enhance national energy security, especially in the context of global energy supply with many potential instabilities.
According to a survey by the national program on energy saving and efficiency in the 2019–2030 period VNEEP 3, the potential for energy saving in Vietnam is still very large, especially in the industrial sector - which accounts for over 50% of the total national energy consumption.
If we only consider the more than 3,000 key energy-using facilities nationwide, with an electricity consumption of more than 80 billion kWh/year, just saving at least 2% of electricity each year will help save about 1.6 billion kWh, equivalent to more than 3,200 billion VND in annual electricity costs. And if all more than 30 million electricity customers practice saving electricity, the results will be enormous.
According to Mr. Dang Hai Dung, the VNEEP 3 program is strongly directed by the Government, with a very clear goal: saving at least 7-10% of total national energy consumption by 2030, thereby contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving the competitiveness of the economy , and ensuring national energy security.
Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at COP 26 and reaffirmed it at COP 27 and COP 28. That commitment is not only an international responsibility but also a driving force for us to fundamentally innovate our development methods, towards a green, circular, low-carbon economy.
In that journey, saving energy and electricity is the most practical and effective solution, not only in the short term but also in the long term, to reduce pressure on energy supply, reduce costs for businesses and people and protect the environment.
