On July 13, on the occasion of attending the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related conferences in Jakarta, Indonesia, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Wang Yi, Member of the Politburo and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China.

Both sides highly appreciated and expressed pleasure at the positive developments in Vietnam-China relations in recent times; affirming that they will continue to value each other's roles and the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Both sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the Joint Statement made during General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to China (October 2022) and the concrete results achieved during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's recent visit to China (June 2023).
Both sides agreed to further strengthen exchanges and contacts at high levels and other levels, promote cooperation in various fields, especially economy and trade, transportation connectivity, and exchanges between the people and localities of the two countries, and work together to maintain a peaceful and stable environment in the region.
Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his wish for both sides to maintain and enhance the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms, including coordinating the successful organization of the 15th Session of the Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee in Vietnam.
Minister Bui Thanh Son requested that China continue to expand imports of goods and accelerate the opening of its market to Vietnamese products, especially agricultural and aquatic products and fruits; and coordinate to maintain smooth customs clearance in the context of Vietnam's agricultural harvest season.
The Minister also requested that China increase the quota for Vietnamese goods transiting through China's railway network to third countries; strengthen transportation and border gate connections; accelerate the implementation of several cooperation projects between the two countries; coordinate the effective management of the land border; expedite the opening and upgrading of agreed-upon border crossings; and soon put the Ban Gioc Waterfall (Vietnam) - Duc Thien (China) tourist area into pilot operation.

Appreciating Minister Bui Thanh Son's cooperation proposals, Politburo member Wang Yi suggested that the two sides coordinate and support each other in implementing the country's modernization; strengthen high-quality connectivity between the "Belt and Road" Initiative and the "Two Corridors, One Belt" Framework; and affirmed that he would facilitate Vietnam's more effective utilization of Chinese aid funds.
Both sides agreed to effectively implement high-level agreements and common understandings, manage and appropriately handle disagreements, strive to maintain peace and stability at sea, fully and effectively implement the DOC, and work with ASEAN countries to soon achieve a substantive, effective, and internationally compliant COC, including international conventions on the sea, contributing to ensuring peace, stability, and freedom of navigation in the region as well as the legitimate rights and interests of all parties.
Both sides also agreed to enhance the role of bilateral mechanisms in matters of territorial borders and maritime boundaries.
During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues of mutual interest; and committed to continuing to coordinate closely in regional and international cooperation forums and mechanisms, including those led by ASEAN.
