Within the framework of the State visit to South Korea, at noon on August 11, General Secretary To Lam and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung chaired a press conference to inform about the results of the talks.
Informing a large number of press agencies of the two countries, General Secretary To Lam said that the two sides had just had a very successful meeting. After more than 30 years of construction and development, the Vietnam-Korea relationship has become a model of a particularly good relationship with many outstanding and comprehensive achievements, especially since the official upgrading of the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in December 2022. Political trust between the two countries has been constantly strengthened, cooperation in all areas has developed substantially and effectively; people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have become increasingly vibrant and bustling.
Speaking at a press conference, President Lee Jae Myung said the visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation has contributed to deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries. At the talks, the two sides had in-depth discussions on the situation in each country, bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed on many important contents.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed his hope that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation in various fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.
At the press meeting, General Secretary To Lam and President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung stated that in the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership, the two sides discussed and agreed on a number of major orientations to promote bilateral relations in the coming time.
The two sides agreed to continue expanding cooperation through the Party, State, Government and National Assembly channels to promptly orient strategies and create a favorable political foundation, expand comprehensive cooperation in all fields; promote practical cooperation in key areas of diplomacy, defense and security; and coordinate to resolve non-traditional security issues, transnational crimes, high-tech crimes and drugs.
The two sides agreed to continue expanding the scale of investment associated with substantive cooperation in technology, prioritizing areas such as infrastructure development, production of high-tech electronic equipment, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, smart cities, building specialized industrial production complexes along the value chain; continue to facilitate trade, open markets for each other's goods, thereby contributing to the completion of the bilateral trade turnover target of 150 billion USD by 2030; focus on cooperation in areas such as development of strategic transport infrastructure, energy infrastructure, digital infrastructure and infrastructure adapting to climate change.
General Secretary To Lam and President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung emphasized that the two sides agreed to make science and technology cooperation a pillar and a new bright spot in bilateral relations; actively promote agencies to expand cooperation in science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, and train high-quality human resources, especially in developing strategic technology industries and strategic products; expand cooperation in new breakthrough fields such as the production of high-tech electronic equipment, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy to serve the development needs of both sides. The two sides agreed to strengthen cultural, educational and people-to-people cooperation to create a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between the two countries, promote exchanges between people and localities of the two countries.
The two leaders expressed their belief that the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will increasingly develop substantially, effectively, sustainably and long-term for the benefit of the two peoples, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
