VNNIC signed a cooperation agreement with Dong Thap province to develop digital resources, pioneering the transformation to the new generation of Internet.

In early August, the Vietnam Internet Center Branch in Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Science and Technology of Dong Thap province signed a cooperation agreement "Coordination to strengthen the management and development of Internet resources in Dong Thap province" with the strategic goal of popularizing the national domain name ".vn" to 60-70% of preferential subjects in the period 2024-2025 and converting information technology infrastructure to IPv6, connecting the province's network infrastructure to the National Internet Exchange Point (VNIX).

This is considered a strategic move, helping Dong Thap to quickly grasp the trend of the next generation of the Internet, while simultaneously realizing the goals of the national digital transformation program.

One of the key aspects of the agreement is the effective implementation of the "Trusted Online Presence Support Program with '.vn' Domain Names" as stipulated in Decision 826/QD-BTTTT of the Ministry of Information and Communications . The goal is for 60–70% of eligible entities in the program to own a ".vn" domain name during the 2024–2025 period.

According to Mr. Do Quang Trung, Head of VNNIC's Ho Chi Minh City Branch: "The national domain '.vn' is not just an online address, but also a brand, a digital home, and a representation of Vietnam's digital sovereignty. When Dong Thap promotes the use of '.vn', businesses, households, and citizens will have a digital home in cyberspace, a reliable online tool, protecting their brands, enhancing competitiveness, and facilitating international integration."

The popularization of ".vn" is also expected to help Dong Thap significantly improve its e-commerce ranking (EBI), digital transformation (DTI), and innovation index (GII).

Transitioning Internet infrastructure to IPv6 – Towards an industrial Internet

Besides domain names, Dong Thap will transform its IT infrastructure and Internet connectivity to the new generation IPv6, develop industrial Internet and the Internet of Things (IoT)... The province will also plan to connect its network infrastructure to VNIX – the National Internet Exchange Point – to optimize speed, reduce latency, ensure information security, and develop a provincial-level VNIX member ecosystem.

In addition, the two sides will cooperate in promoting and disseminating information to local people about experiencing and using the i-Speed ​​by VNNIC internet access speed measurement application, with the goal of increasing the number of test samples in the area, supporting state agencies in creating a database and statistics that accurately reflect the actual quality of internet services in the area.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Le Quang Khoi, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, emphasized that today's cooperation agreement will be the beginning of a breakthrough and dynamic Dong Thap, where digital technology becomes the core driving force for development and integration. The Department of Science and Technology of the province hopes that the contents of the cooperation agreement will contribute to the socio-economic development of the province.
