After negotiations, the bride agreed to pay the two bridesmaids on one condition.

The topic "Bride refuses to pay 600 yuan to bridesmaids" is trending on social media in China, garnering millions of views and sparking heated discussions. Most netizens have expressed outrage and indignation at the bride's attitude.

Specifically, a wedding in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, hired two girls as part-time bridesmaids. Initially, the bride negotiated a payment of 800 yuan (over 2.8 million VND). The two parties agreed verbally, and the bride paid a deposit of 200 yuan (over 700,000 VND).

However, after the wedding reception ended, the bride did not pay the remaining amount – 600 yuan (over 2 million VND) – to the two hired bridesmaids, claiming they did not bring their mobile phones.

However, three days after the wedding, the two girls hired as bridesmaids still hadn't received their money. When Ye contacted the bride, she explained that she wouldn't pay the remaining amount, citing various reasons.

Firstly, the bride argued that the bridesmaids were hired merely as employees, not qualified to participate in the wedding game. And because they participated in this game, the two girls received a doll worth 300 yuan (approximately 1 million VND) and a red envelope containing money.

For the bride, accepting gifts without her consent was wrong, as neither of the recipients were her friends; they were merely hired to do the job.

Secondly, both bridesmaids had already eaten three meals, with each table at the wedding costing 8,000 yuan (over 24 million VND).

For these two reasons, the bride felt she did not need to pay the remaining 600 yuan as promised.

The bride even criticized Ms. Ye and her friend for "lacking professional ethics." "I felt Ms. Ye's service attitude was poor; they both seemed to do nothing at all. If I paid 800 yuan, it would have been a huge loss," the bride shared.

In response to this issue, Ms. Ye said that playing games, eating, and receiving red envelopes are normal activities that make the wedding atmosphere even more joyful.

"Furthermore, brides have different requirements. Clearly, the bride didn't mention anything about receiving gifts or returning them from the beginning. If she had made that clear, this wouldn't have happened."

Regarding the doll, Ms. Ye explained that it was a gift from the best man to the bridesmaid.

After this incident was shared on social media, a large number of netizens expressed their outrage and debated the matter. Many netizens said that the bride's actions were not in accordance with the original agreement.

Furthermore, it's clear that the bride herself hired the two girls to be bridesmaids, so their participation in games and meals at the reception is understandable. Some argue that both sides should have had clear rules from the beginning, as the ambiguity makes it difficult to judge who is right and who is wrong now.

“Should we hire bridesmaids just to have them sit still? What bridesmaids at a wedding don't eat, drink, or participate in any games to liven up the atmosphere?”, “This bride is also terrible; the money wasn't much. She hired them to be bridesmaids for the whole day. I don't see anything wrong with them eating or participating in games,” “Some people also argue that since they hired bridesmaids, there should be a contractual agreement, and her participation in games is part of the job. If you're really having trouble with this, you should clearly explain the scope of work, hours, etc., in the first question.” ... These are some of the comments from netizens.

After the incident was shared on social media, and the two parties negotiated, the bride agreed to pay 600 yuan, on the condition that both bridesmaids return the doll and any gifts they received at her wedding.

The two girls said they received two red envelopes containing 10 yuan (over 35,000 VND) and two teddy bears. They will return them to the bride immediately.

Bridesmaid rental services are booming in China. (Illustrative image.)

As for Ye (26 years old), she said that in addition to her regular job, she has been working as a part-time bridesmaid for about a year now. On average, she earns between 600 and 800 yuan for being a bridesmaid.

This service is quite popular in China. Nowadays, many people don't have many friends to be bridesmaids – young, unmarried women of marriageable age who have a close relationship with the bride are preferred. Furthermore, the hired bridesmaids are very professional, and the bride has the right to choose them. The parties will agree on the price and specify requirements regarding appearance, etc. Throughout the wedding, in addition to their main duties, the bridesmaids also show interest in and chat with the bride and guests (if needed).

However, this job also carries risks. According to QQ , whether you're a newlywed or a bridesmaid/groomsman, you should be careful to avoid being scammed and have a clear contract to protect the legal rights and interests of both parties. At the same time, when hired as a bridesmaid or groomsman, girls and boys should also consider the customs and traditions of the place where the wedding is held to avoid any undesirable situations.
