These days, from early morning, dozens of workers of the Ngân Hà pineapple production cooperative (Ky Hoa commune) are busy on the hill to harvest the first crop. From the barren land, 13 households of the cooperative have developed and expanded the pineapple growing model with a total area of 8.5 hectares. This is a model supported by Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company ( Ninh Binh province) in planting techniques, care and product consumption. The entire pineapple area was planted from May 2024. Up to now, 30% of the area has produced ripe fruit, the remaining area is expected to be harvested by the end of this year. Mr. Truong Xuan Ha - Head of the Ngan Ha pineapple production association group shared: " After visiting the pineapple production model in Ninh Binh province, realizing that pineapple is a drought-resistant plant, suitable for hilly areas, my family and I decided to plant this plant on abandoned land in Ky Hoa commune. Besides learning the transfer techniques from Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company, we have invested more than 130 million VND/ha to buy seeds, treat the soil, fertilize, and hire workers to take care of the plants. After more than 1 year, up to now, 30% of the area has begun to harvest the first crop with an estimated yield of 40-45 tons/ha".
According to Mr. Ha, this is the first time the pineapple production model has been harvested in Ha Tinh , so the cooperative members and the people are very excited. Each load of golden pineapple after harvesting is gathered by workers at the foot of the hill for convenient purchasing.
The pineapple production linkage model not only contributes to exploiting the production potential in the barren land but also creates jobs for dozens of local workers. At this time, more than 20 workers are mobilized to harvest pineapples to ensure productivity, quality and avoid the impact of extreme weather. Ms. Ho Thi Nga (Nam Xuan village, Ky Van commune) shared: " Since the members of the cooperative started planting pineapple trees on Ky Hoa hill, I have been hired as a seasonal worker with an income of 280,000 - 350,000 VND/day. Previously, we were hired to plant, fertilize, and weed; for about 3 days now, we have been mobilized to harvest."
According to the cooperative members, the first pineapple crop yielded quite well, each fruit weighed from 0.3 to 1 kg, with an estimated yield of 40 to 45 tons/ha, and an estimated total output of more than 400 tons. Currently, pineapples are being purchased at 6,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Truong Van Minh - Member of the Ngan Ha pineapple production association said: " This is the first time we have held in our hands the fruits of our labor, naturally ripened, fragrant pineapples, everyone is happy. On average, we harvest 8-10 tons of fruit per day, and the company buys as much as we harvest, so people can rest assured in their production. Also through the first crop, we will gain more experience so that the next crop will have higher productivity and quality ." Pineapple trees usually give their first harvest 14-16 months after planting, and the second harvest after about 10 months. After two harvests, farmers will remove the trees and replant new ones to ensure productivity and quality.
In Ha Tinh, Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company cooperated with many localities to grow 235.14 hectares of pineapple, including: Cam Xuyen district (old) 112.5 hectares; Ky Anh district (old) 100 hectares, Huong Khe district (old) 5 hectares, Vu Quang district (old) 17.64 hectares.
The joint production area in Ky Hoa commune is the first growing area to harvest. According to initial assessment, pineapple is very suitable for the soil and climate conditions here; the yield and quality of the first pineapple crop are guaranteed, expected to reach 40-45 tons/ha. In the coming time, we will continue to guide people on planting and care techniques, and draw experience from the first crop to develop pineapple more effectively.
