A section of dike is leaking, threatening approximately 220 hectares of rice fields belonging to local residents.
At noon on October 20th, a section of the embankment in Xom Moi hamlet, Vinh Chau commune, showed signs of water leakage and was at risk of collapse. If not repaired promptly, the embankment could break, causing damage to approximately 220 hectares of rice fields in the area.
In response to the situation, Vinh Chau commune mobilized machinery and dozens of permanent militia members, youth union members, and local people to reinforce and fill leaks, build earthen embankments, and repair the dike to prevent water from flooding rice fields and protect the rice production area of the people.
Local authorities mobilized rescue forces to protect the rice crop.
According to information from the People's Committee of Vinh Chau commune, there are currently nearly 6,600 hectares of rice for the Autumn-Winter 2025 crop, aged 20 to 40 days, and over 1,300 hectares of rice for the Winter-Spring 2025-2026 crop, aged 10 to 15 days.
Most of the dikes in the commune have overflow sections, which farmers have reinforced themselves, basically ensuring a height of 20-40cm. If the water level continues to rise rapidly, many rice fields are likely to be affected.
Currently, the authorities and people of Vinh Chau commune are closely monitoring the developments of the rain and floods in order to take appropriate measures to respond when incidents occur and minimize damage.
