Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee informed that by the evening of July 25, the identity of the female victim's body found that afternoon had been determined.
DNA identified Ms. HTQ (born in 1975, in Hong Van commune, Hanoi city), as the missing tourist in the capsized boat Vinh Xanh 58 on the afternoon of July 19 in Ha Long Bay.
Previously, at around 3:00 p.m. on July 25, after receiving a report from local residents, the 116 volunteer rescue team and the Ha Long Parachute Club discovered a female body.
Quang Ninh provincial authorities have sent forces to the Pineapple estuary area, near Ti Top island, about 2 nautical miles from where the ship capsized, to salvage the victim and bring him to Bai Chay Hospital to conduct identity verification steps.
The results showed that the DNA belonged to Ms. HTQ (born in 1975). The authorities have handed over the victim's body to her family for burial.
Currently, authorities, volunteer teams, and local people continue to search for the remaining victims, determined to bring all victims back to their families.
Previously, on July 19, the tourist boat Blue Bay 58, number QN 48-7105, was carrying 49 people (including 46 tourists and 3 crew members) on a tour of route 2 on Ha Long Bay. After about 35 minutes of travel, the boat encountered a strong storm and capsized. 10 out of 49 people were fortunately rescued.
Ms. HTQ's husband was with her and died.
Thus, by the end of July 25, Quang Ninh provincial authorities had verified and handed over 38 victims to their families. One victim has yet to be found.
In recent days, nearly 30 search teams from the police and army of Quang Ninh province have coordinated with volunteer forces such as Rescue Team 116 and the Ha Long Parachute Club to search the bay for missing victims.
