Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of June 17, a leader of the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Transport said that they are assigning specialized departments to coordinate with the Ha Long Bay Management Board to verify the information reported by tourists on Facebook about being abandoned on Ti Top Island.
On Facebook, a user posted a complaint about a "disastrous travel experience: abandoning tourists on Ti Top Island without checking on them, not a single missed call, waiting 30 minutes at the pier without seeing a boat, and calling the number on the wristband but it was unavailable..."
According to a representative of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, on June 16th, a tourist boat carrying 99 passengers (not part of a group tour) went to Ti Top Island in Ha Long Bay. When the passengers returned to the boat, they did not come back, and the boat could not find them but still sailed back to shore.
The shipping company then arranged for another vessel from their unit to pick up the remaining passengers, but this resulted in the passengers arriving later than originally scheduled.
According to representatives from the Quang Ninh Inland Waterway Port Authority and the Ha Long Bay Management Board, the unit only learned about the incident after it was posted on social media. Prior to that, during their duties, they had not received any reports from tourists about being abandoned.
The relevant authorities are focusing on clarifying the shipping company's responsibilities and taking corrective measures to prevent this situation from recurring.
