The results show that the top 10 provinces and cities with the highest number of award-winning students are all from the North Central region and beyond, which have consistently achieved high results in the national excellent student competition for many years.
Meanwhile, provinces and cities in the southern region have a rather modest number of awards. Of the 10 provinces and cities with the fewest award-winning students, 6 are in the South. Notably, Hau Giang province only has 5 national-level awards for outstanding students.
In terms of high schools, Le Hong Phong Specialized High School in Ho Chi Minh City has the highest number of national-level student excellence awards.

This is also an "exception" as the majority of high schools in the top 10 of the national student excellence competition are located in the northern provinces and cities.
Some provinces may not have a top ranking in terms of overall awards, but their specialized high schools have a very high number of awards, such as Le Khiet Specialized High School, Le Quy Don Specialized High School (Da Nang), Le Quy Don Specialized High School (Ba Ria - Vung Tau)...
The top students come from non-specialized schools.
Besides the difference in the number of national-level awards for outstanding students, the structure of award-winning students between the two regions is also contrasting. While most award-winning students in the northern provinces and cities come from specialized schools, in the South, a significant number of award-winning students come from regular schools.

Out of 63 provinces and cities, 18 provinces have absolutely no students from outside specialized schools winning national awards for academic excellence. The majority of these provinces and cities are in the North and Central regions.
Ho Chi Minh City leads in the number of non-specialized high schools with students winning national-level academic awards, with 12 schools. Hanoi ranks second with 11 schools. The remaining provinces are mostly in the South, Central, and Central Highlands regions.
Notably, Soc Trang province, despite having only 28 national-level awards for outstanding students, received 12 awards from students of 9 non-specialized high schools in the province, with the remainder coming from specialized schools.
Students from non-specialized schools in Vinh Long province also contributed 6 out of the province's 17 national-level excellent student awards.
Similarly, students from non-specialized high schools in Ca Mau contributed nearly half of the province's total number of national-level student excellence awards.
