The Vietnam Fruit Festival is a great opportunity for Vietnamese producers and suppliers to introduce and promote their brands and typical fruit products, and to build sustainable cooperative relationships with potential fruit import partners in China.

Lễ hội trái cây Việt Nam lần thứ nhất diễn ra tại Trung tâm Phân phối Nông sản Tân Phát Địa, quận Phong Đài, thủ đô Bắc Kinh (Trung Quốc).
The first Vietnam Fruit Festival took place at the Tan Phat Dia Agricultural Products Distribution Center, Fengtai District, Beijing (China).

The first Vietnam Fruit Festival, themed "Vietnamese Fruits - Delicious in All Seasons," took place over two days, September 29-30, at the Tan Phat Dia Agricultural Products Distribution Center, Fengtai District, Beijing (China).

The festival was organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the Vietnamese Embassy in China, and the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association.

Vietnamese fruits are still mainly exported through border trade.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, said that Vietnam is located in a tropical monsoon climate zone - considered a paradise for tropical plants; in particular, it has many lush orchards stretching across the country, along with the diversity and sophistication of many types of fruit.

With an annual output of 12-14 million tons, Vietnam's fruit products not only meet domestic consumption needs but also serve the export market, generating over $3.5 billion in revenue each year.

Over the years, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China has been developing very well, bringing practical benefits to both sides; in particular , economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has increasingly developed in depth and breadth, achieving many important and positive results, despite the downturn in the global economy.

As evidence, China consistently remains Vietnam's largest trading partner, and Vietnam is currently China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fifth largest globally . In terms of fruit and fruit product supply, Vietnam is China's third largest trading partner worldwide, with many products having established a strong foothold and being favored by Chinese consumers.

However, according to Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, the results achieved so far are still not commensurate with the potential, needs, and strengths of each side. Currently, Vietnamese fruits are still mainly exported to China via border trade to meet the market demand of some localities in southern and southeastern China and provinces adjacent to Vietnam.

For other localities, the presence of Vietnamese fruit products is still quite modest, while the demand for fruit in the Chinese market is very large and Vietnam has abundant supply of high-quality, specialty fruits… Therefore, there is still huge potential for fruit businesses of both countries to exploit and develop.

“This is a good opportunity for Vietnamese producers and suppliers to introduce and promote their brands and the image of their typical fruit products, as well as to meet and seek customers, strengthen trade activities, and build sustainable cooperative relationships with potential partners for fruit imports in China. At the same time, it is a favorable opportunity for a large number of Chinese consumers to directly experience the quality and distinctive flavors of Vietnamese fruits, thereby helping to promote the national brand for agricultural products in general and fruits in particular of Vietnam to the Chinese market,” Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized.

The two countries continue to strengthen and open up their agricultural markets.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam, Vietnam and China share similarities in culinary culture, which serves as a foundation for promoting trade between the two countries in general and the exchange of specialty fruits in particular. Bringing Vietnamese fruits to the Chinese market allows consumers to enjoy the wonderful flavors of many types of fruit as if they were in Vietnam.

To date, 12 types of Vietnamese fruits have been exported to the Chinese market, with an estimated export value of approximately $4.5 billion in 2024.

Many high-quality Vietnamese fruits such as durian, dragon fruit, bananas, and mangoes are now available on the Chinese market.

To promote agricultural trade between the two countries in the coming time, through this festival, Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam hopes that relevant agencies of both countries will continue to strengthen coordination in removing barriers and opening up agricultural markets. In particular, he hopes that agencies of the General Administration of Customs of China will expand the range of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products, especially specialty fruits from Vietnam, that can be introduced and consumed in the Chinese market.

According to Mr. Li Yan, Deputy Director of the Asia Department of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, China is Vietnam's largest export market for fruits and vegetables. In 2023, Vietnam's agricultural exports to China accounted for 21% of Vietnam's total agricultural exports to the world.

Thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, high-quality Vietnamese fruits such as durian, dragon fruit, bananas, and mangoes have entered the Chinese market. At the same time, food products manufactured in Vietnam, such as coffee and pho, are also very popular among Chinese consumers.

With the comprehensive implementation of the RCEP Agreement and the continuous upgrading of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, cooperation between the two countries in technology, standards, and agricultural production has increasingly developed in a more in-depth direction.

“This is the first time Vietnam has organized a fruit promotion event in Beijing. I hope Vietnamese businesses will make good use of this opportunity and actively explore the Chinese market. I also hope that the people of Beijing will seize this rare opportunity to enjoy delicious Vietnamese fruits and introduce their unique flavors to their friends and relatives,” expressed the Deputy Director of the Asia Department of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

Mr. Truong Ngoc Ty, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tan Phat Dia Agricultural Products Distribution Center, said that a large quantity of Vietnamese agricultural products has been exported to the Chinese market, bringing many kinds of tropical fruits and vegetables to serve Chinese consumers, meeting the diverse food needs of Chinese consumers.

According to Mr. Truong Ngoc Ty, every year, agricultural products from 46 countries and regions are displayed at Tan Phat Dia, meaning that "Just by stepping into Tan Phat Dia, you can enjoy cuisine from all over the world."

Commenting on the first Vietnam Fruit Festival, Mr. Truong Ngoc Ty said that the Vietnam Fruit Festival was a wonderful exhibition held in Beijing, creating valuable opportunities for connection and exchange between Chinese and Vietnamese agricultural businesses, and certainly promoting the further development of Vietnamese agricultural exports.

"We are extremely hopeful that more high-quality Vietnamese fruits and vegetables will be available in the Chinese market, adding richness and variety to the meals of people in Beijing," the leader of Xinfa Didi emphasized.
