Amid a growing humanitarian crisis and the US vetoing a UN Security Council resolution demanding a ceasefire, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt are organizing a one-day trip with the participation of about 10 ambassadors, including Russia and the UK.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres once likened the Gaza Strip to a “graveyard” after Israel’s counter-attack turned many areas into rubble and forced about 1.9 million people to flee.
In another development, on the same day, Israel's Coordination Agency for Palestinian Affairs (COGAT) confirmed that it is preparing to open the Kerem Shalom border crossing with the Gaza Strip to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the territory.
Earlier this month, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said there were positive signs that the Kerem Shalom crossing would soon be opened, amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli offensive.
