Opening Ceremony of the Preliminary Round of the 18th National Journalism Awards - 2023.
In the report summarizing the entries for the preliminary round, Ms. Do Thi Thu Hang, Vice Chairperson of the Preliminary Judging Panel and Head of the General Secretariat of the Award, stated:
This year, the National Journalism Awards received participation from 18 out of 21 affiliated associations, 30 subordinate branches, and all 63 provincial and city journalists' associations.
The organization and implementation of this year's competition at all levels of the association were mostly carried out in an orderly and effective manner. However, due to the late Lunar New Year holiday this year, along with preparations for the National Press Conference and several important conferences of the Vietnam Journalists Association , the submission of entries to the competition was later than in previous years, and some levels of the association did not follow the guidelines correctly.
This year, the competition received 1,905 entries, reaching an all-time high. Of these, 127 entries were submitted by authors who are not members of the Vietnam Journalists Association.
The General Secretariat has shortlisted 78 works and included 1,827 works that meet the eligibility criteria for the preliminary round.
The Head of the Secretariat announced: The 2023 National Journalism Awards will continue to have 11 award categories. Among these, the categories of radio, television, and online journalism will continue to be judged online using the judging software of the Vietnam Journalists Association.
The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association and Chairman of the preliminary judging panel delivered a speech.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Standing Vice President of the National Press Award Council, and Chairman of the Preliminary Judging Panel stated that although the preliminary selection of works had been carried out seriously and rigorously by the Award Secretariat, due to the large volume of entries and limited time, there were undoubtedly some shortcomings in the screening process.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Loi suggested that the Council base its assessment of the works on the Regulations of the Award and the selection guidelines, ensuring that the works selected for the final round meet the quality standards and comply with the established regulations.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Loi noted: This year, the preliminary judging panel for the National Journalism Award retains the same structure as last year; however, the members have been changed and adjusted in a way that promotes innovation and continuity. Many members are participating in judging the National Journalism Award for the first time. He requested that the members of the judging panel uphold their professional spirit and responsibility, be thorough and impartial in evaluating the works, and contribute to the success of the most prestigious journalism award for Vietnamese journalists.
