The event was attended by 188 children from 43 provinces and cities, the Thuy An Rehabilitation Center for People with Disabilities, the Vietnam Association of the Blind, the Da Nang Center for Supporting Inclusive Education Development, and SOS Children's Villages in various provinces and cities.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in coordination with the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, took place from August 5-8 with the theme "Children's participation in building a safe, friendly, and healthy living environment for children".
At the forum, 188 children representing 25 million children nationwide will discuss five groups of issues: preventing and combating violence and abuse against children; preventing and minimizing injuries, drowning accidents, and traffic accidents; protecting children in the online environment; preventing and combating climate change, epidemics, and natural disasters; preventing and combating child labor in violation of the law; and other issues of concern to them.
Through this, the children share initiatives and solutions that children nationwide have participated in implementing to work with schools, families, communities, and all levels of government to create a safe and healthy living environment for themselves; and offer messages and recommendations on topics so that adults can support children.
In her opening remarks at the forum, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha emphasized that children's participation is stipulated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the 2013 Constitution, and the 2016 Law on Children. Government programs and projects on the country's socio-economic development in recent years, as well as the Party and State's policies and guidelines related to children, all seek to incorporate children's opinions.
The National Children's Forum has been successfully held for six consecutive years. The 7th forum is being held in a different context compared to the previous six, as children have just gone through nearly three years of disruption caused by Covid-19, impacting their health, educational opportunities, play, and recreation.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha shared that the Party, State, Government, and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs are very concerned and have issued many policies, decrees, resolutions, and official documents related to the above issues to protect a safe and healthy living environment for children; provinces and cities have implemented these policies well. Basically, Vietnamese children are living in an increasingly safer environment, with better conditions for learning, playing, and recreation. However, many children are still subjected to violence, abuse, and forced labor; recreational facilities in many localities are still limited… The forum will be a place for children to express their opinions and aspirations, or for agencies and organizations to gather children's opinions on issues related to children.
In addition to participating in group discussions on various issues, within the framework of the forum, on the morning of August 7th, children attending the Forum will participate in a ceremony to report their achievements to President Ho Chi Minh; meet and interact with leaders of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to share and express their thoughts and aspirations.
On the morning of August 8th, at the official session of the Forum, the children will have the opportunity to meet, interact, and convey messages and recommendations from the 7th National Children's Forum to leaders of the Party, State, ministries, departments, organizations, and relevant agencies.
Following the Forum, the messages and recommendations from the children will be sent to agencies, organizations, policymakers, and those working for children for consideration and appropriate response.
