According to EVN, data review results show that approximately 3.2 million customers experienced an increase in electricity consumption of 30% or more compared to July 2025, accounting for nearly 10% of the total number of customers nationwide.
The main cause has been identified as the intense and prolonged hot weather in early August, leading to a sudden surge in household electricity demand. Notably, on August 4th, electricity consumption in the North reached an all-time high.
Along with reviewing bills, power companies have intensified efforts to guide customers in using electronic applications and customer service hotlines to monitor electricity consumption. However, EVN acknowledges that due to the extremely high number of calls during the peak of the hot weather, many customers have not been able to be connected and receive timely support.
In its report, EVN stated that in August 2025 alone, the Northern Region Customer Care Call Center received 171,723 calls, of which 150,387 were successfully answered, achieving a success rate of 87.58%. The calls were concentrated during peak periods of hot weather, causing localized overload at the call center.
EVN also added that approximately 500 posts reflecting on high electricity bills have appeared on social media. Upon investigation, some of the content was found to be unverified, duplicated, or untrue, causing misunderstanding and increasing public pressure. Electricity companies have proactively contacted each individual case to verify and clearly explain electricity consumption and billing methods.
