(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong, Dr. Pham Huy Hieu, and Dr. Ngo Quoc Duy are among the top 20 nominees for "Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces of 2023".
Three young PhDs have been nominated in the field of Scientific Research - Innovation for the 2023 Outstanding Young Vietnamese Award . Previously, they were all honored at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards for their outstanding achievements. Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong (born in 1989) is the first female PhD in Vietnam to receive the Early Career Award. Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong completed her PhD in Neurology at Stanford University (USA) in 2018 and returned to Vietnam to work. She currently holds the position of Head of the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Head of the Brain Health Laboratory at the International University, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. The 35-year-old scientist is pursuing research focused on addressing issues related to brain health, especially problems specific to the Vietnamese context, such as designing interventions to limit cognitive decline in older adults or to reduce stress.
Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong is known as a scientist who pursues research to find solutions to problems related to brain health.
In 2023, Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong and her colleagues proposed the project "Brain Analytics software for analyzing MRI images of the brain of patients and accurately, automatically, and quickly diagnosing Alzheimer's disease within 7 hours." The software was trained and tested on the ADNI (USA) database with an accuracy rate of approximately 96%. The project helped spread awareness of the importance of applying technology in solving medical problems. The software was tested and evaluated by doctors and medical students from 8 different hospitals nationwide, with 80% satisfaction with its features. The project also won numerous awards at the city, national, and international levels: Third prize in the GIST-Catalyst ASIA competition ; third prize in the National Technical Innovation Competition; and second prize in the Ho Chi Minh City Innovation Award. Also in 2023, Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong was one of the 10 outstanding young scientists to win the 2023 Golden Globe Award . She was also honored as one of the 200 outstanding educators nationwide in 2023, received the title of Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City in 2023, and won the Women of the Future Awards Southeast Asia 2023. At the end of 2022, Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong was one of three female scientists honored as "Outstanding Female Scientist of 2022" (L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards) for her promising research projects for health and community benefit, including "Integrated Remote Electroencephalogram (EEG) System with Automatic Ultrasound Stimulation Control"; and "Building a Machine Learning Model to Estimate the Stress Level of Each Student". In 2020, Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong was one of 15 young researchers worldwide awarded the Early Career Award by the International Brain Research Organization, based in France. This is the first time a female PhD in Vietnam has received this award. Dr. Pham Huy Hieu (born in 1992) - the youngest recipient of the 2023 Golden Globe Award . Dr. Pham Huy Hieu received a full doctoral scholarship from the French government to study Computer Science at the University of Toulouse. After graduating with honors, he returned to Vietnam to contribute to the country. Dr. Pham Huy Hieu is currently a lecturer at the Institute of Engineering and Computer Science, Deputy Director of the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center, and Director of the Entrepreneurship Center (E-lab) at VinUni University. The male professor has conducted numerous research projects in the field of healthcare , opening up new research directions, especially aimed at solving healthcare and technological challenges in Vietnam. A prime example is the "VinDr Medical Imaging Diagnostic Software based on Artificial Intelligence" solution - which provides strong support for doctors in cancer screening and detection of serious diseases. The solution "VAIPE: Smart Healthcare Monitoring and Support System for Vietnamese People" - recognized as a pioneering solution shaping the trend of digital transformation in healthcare in Vietnam - won the Artificial Intelligence Application Product Award 2022 (AI Awards 2022) presented by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Dr. Pham Huy Hieu possesses numerous valuable inventions and patents.
Furthermore, Dr. Pham Huy Hieu has published 50 scientific papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, including 20 papers in Q1 journals (an extremely difficult group to publish in) and 6 top-ranked A/A* conference papers in the fields of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and smart healthcare. He is also a co-author of two outstanding papers (Best Paper Award) at prestigious international scientific conferences. With his significant efforts and contributions to the domestic scientific landscape, Dr. Pham Huy Hieu is the youngest scientist to receive the 2023 Golden Globe Award at the age of 31. He also won the ISCN Excellence Awards for a digital healthcare project with outstanding contributions to sustainable development; and the DAAD Fellows 2021 award for outstanding young researchers in the field of artificial intelligence. The 32-year-old doctor is also a member of the Southeast Asian Neuroscience Conference Committee of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM). Dr. Ngo Quoc Duy (born in 1989) is a talented young scientist who graduated from Hanoi Medical University and is currently the Deputy Head of the Head and Neck Surgery Department at K Hospital. He is the author of many outstanding scientific studies, most notably "Thyroidectomy via the oral vestibular approach in children". This research has opened a new chapter in the treatment of thyroid diseases in children. The results were also published in an international Q1 journal with an IF of 5.2 (a measure reflecting the average number of citations per year of scientific articles published in that journal), and were presented at prestigious international conferences such as the 7th World Head and Neck Cancer Conference in Italy in June 2023. Furthermore, Dr. Ngo Quoc Duy's paper on applying the oral vestibular approach in lateral cervical lymph node dissection for thyroid cancer treatment has initially received recognition from international experts. This is evidenced by its selection as one of the top 10 outstanding techniques at the 2021 International Congress of Cancer Surgery in the United States and its publication in a prestigious international Q1 journal with an IF of 3.7. Dr. Ngo Quoc Duy has also published 62 scientific papers, 29 of which have appeared in prestigious international journals.
