5 skin diseases when the weather changes seasons

The changing seasons create favorable conditions for viruses, bacteria, and fungi to thrive, causing many skin diseases such as allergic dermatitis and fungal infections.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, a specialist in Dermatology and Cosmetic Dermatology at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, explains that skin diseases during seasonal changes are caused by skin irritation due to external weather and climate conditions, and their development varies depending on each individual's constitution. These diseases can affect anyone, but are more common in people with sensitive skin and weakened immune systems. Below are some common skin diseases caused by seasonal changes.

Atopic dermatitis : Symptoms include dry skin, scaling, redness, itching, burning, blisters, etc., appearing in many areas of the body. The causes of atopic dermatitis can be sudden changes in air, temperature, humidity, and other external factors. The condition is common in people with sensitive skin, easily irritated skin, weakened immune systems, or frequent exposure to chemicals.

Insect-borne skin diseases : Changing seasons create favorable conditions for insects to thrive. Common disease-causing insects include bedbugs, mosquitoes, and blister beetles. After being bitten by these insects or coming into contact with their secretions, red bumps with blisters or pustules appear on the skin.

Fungal skin infections : This is a common skin disease, frequently occurring during transitional seasons and periods of high humidity. Symptoms of fungal infection typically include round, red patches, blisters, raised edges, dryness, and itching. Depending on the severity of the condition, doctors will prescribe appropriate antifungal medication. Additionally, fungal skin infections can be transmitted from pets to humans through direct contact. Therefore, treating fungal infections in pets is essential to prevent transmission.

Sun-related diseases : In addition to sunburn, skin darkening, and aging, exposure to intense sunlight can worsen conditions such as acne, eczema, atopic dermatitis, bullous diseases, and lupus erythematosus. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays increases the risk of skin cancer.

Dr. Kim Dung further shared that, in addition to skin diseases, low humidity and dry weather make the skin prone to peeling and cracking... This not only affects aesthetics but also causes painful, itchy, and uncomfortable sensations. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to skincare and moisturizing to keep the skin healthy from the inside, preventing external factors that cause skin diseases.

Enhance skin hydration : Moisturize twice daily with products suitable for your skin, containing natural ingredients and free from irritants.

Regular exfoliation : Exfoliating twice a week not only removes the favorable environment for bacteria and fungi to thrive, but also helps nutrients easily penetrate the skin, resulting in brighter, healthier, and smoother skin.

Use sunscreen : When the weather changes, especially on intensely sunny days with high levels of harmful UV rays, apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher at least 30 minutes before going outside to protect your skin.

Drink 1.5-2 liters of water every day : This helps hydrate the skin, reduce oiliness, and prevent dryness and flaking during seasonal changes.
