7,077 people died in traffic accidents in the first 8 months of 2024

This road section recorded the highest number of traffic accidents in the first eight months of 2024.

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee Office, in August 2024 (from July 15, 2024 to August 14, 2024), there were 1,801 traffic accidents nationwide, resulting in 873 deaths and 1,272 injuries.

Compared to the same month in 2023, traffic accidents decreased by 7 cases (0.39%), the number of deaths decreased by 119 (-12%), and the number of injuries increased by 44 (3.58%).

Of these, 1,780 accidents occurred on roads, resulting in 8,671 deaths and 1,266 injuries. Thirteen railway accidents were recorded, causing 8 deaths and 5 injuries. Six waterway accidents resulted in 4 deaths and 1 injury. Two maritime accidents occurred, with no fatalities.

Specifically, in the first eight months of 2024 (from December 15, 2023 to August 14, 2024), there were 16,043 traffic accidents nationwide, resulting in 7,077 deaths and 12,248 injuries. Compared to the same period in 2023, this represents an increase of 1,847 accidents (13.01%), a decrease of 836 deaths (-10.56%), and an increase of 2,764 injuries (29.14%).

Of these, road traffic accidents accounted for the highest number, with 15,905 incidents, resulting in 6,987 deaths and 12,021 injuries. Railways recorded 97 accidents, causing 68 deaths and 23 injuries. Waterways recorded 36 incidents, resulting in 21 deaths and 6 injuries. Maritime transport recorded 5 incidents, resulting in 1 death and no injuries.
