An Giang province has proposed the implementation of 17 disaster prevention projects with a total capital of 5,404 billion VND.

Currently, the situation regarding natural disasters and landslides in An Giang province is becoming increasingly complex and serious. To ensure the safety of lives and property of people in the area, a large amount of funding is needed to address the landslides.

The People's Committee of An Giang province recently issued document No. 402/BC-UBND reporting on the implementation of projects to address riverbank and coastal erosion in the Mekong Delta region using the central government's contingency budget for 2023, and sent it to the Inter-ministerial Working Group - Ministry of Planning and Investment .

In the aforementioned document, the People's Committee of An Giang province stated that the current situation of natural disasters and landslides in An Giang province is complex and increasingly serious. To ensure the safety of lives and property of people in the area, a large amount of funding is needed to address landslides. In the long term, An Giang province needs to continue implementing 17 projects serving disaster prevention with a total budget of 5,404 billion VND, including 14 projects to build embankments to mitigate landslides, with a total budget of 4,463 billion VND, and 3 projects for residential clusters and routes to prevent natural disasters, with a total budget of 941 billion VND.

Specifically: The project includes: a riverbank erosion control embankment along the Tien River section adjacent to the Tan Chau embankment, Long Chau ward, Tan Chau town, with an estimated cost of 272 billion VND; an embankment to address erosion along the Rach Gia - Long Xuyen canal (Nguyen Thanh Son and Ngo Quyen banks), Long Xuyen city, with an estimated cost of 190 billion VND; addressing erosion along the Hau River to protect An Chau town, Chau Thanh district, with an estimated cost of 150 billion VND; a riverbank erosion control embankment along the Tien River to protect residents in Cho Moi town, Cho Moi district, with an estimated cost of 360 billion VND; construction of an embankment to protect residential areas in Chau Doc city, Tan Chau town, and An Phu district, with an estimated cost of 1,890 billion VND; and an embankment project to prevent erosion along the Xep Nang Gu canal, responding to climate change, protecting National Highway 91, and residential areas in Binh My and Binh Thuy communes, Chau Phu district, with an estimated cost of 657 billion VND...

An Giang province has requested the Inter-agency Task Force to consider and propose to the Ministry of Planning and Investment to provide central government budget support for the province to implement two particularly urgent and dangerous projects with a total capital of 347 billion VND. These are: A riverbank erosion control project along the Tien River section adjacent to the Tan Chau embankment, Long Chau ward, Tan Chau town, with a length of 1,426 m and a total investment of 272 billion VND; and an emergency embankment project to address erosion on the western bank of the Hau River at Group 44, Binh Duc 4 hamlet, Binh Duc ward, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province (from the existing embankment towards Can Xay bridge), with an embankment length of 500 m and a total investment of 75 billion VND.
